New to RCTalk, thanks for having me!!!

This may be lengthy… 😆

I purchased 2 Slash VXL RTR rigs (Model 6808 *2012) and put Stampede size tires on both. My son and I enjoyed them for a VERY long time! Life took the drivers seat and I haven't picked up a controller for i'd say at least 8 years. I bought my grandson a Mini XRT for his first ever repairable RC for Christmas and it has created an itch in the old guy!!! 😂 Can I revive my old rigs? I don't want to buy a new rig until I know I can find time to maintain and play on the regular. I know the slash has been revised a few times since my rigs but can they be reasonably reborn and maintained as old as they are? I may decide I'm hooked and totally rebuild one with upgrades but I need to stick my toes in the water first. 🙄 I am pretty sure I have at least one full working rig… Mice got to the motor leads of the other one because I didn't store them in totes. I am fairly confident the telemetry is good on both and that both servos and ESC's are good but only the one motor. Can I still get parts for the early version of this rig? The interweb says my model was released in 2009 but I was here in 2014, so its been 10 years or so since I bought them.

TYIA for your time and opinions/advice!!!

Slashes are everywhere. Traxxas tends to keep revisions minimal so they can have very very long term support. Rustler/stampede and bandit had been supported and are still are supporting since the mid 90s.

Short awnser: Yes. Rebuild it. Make a build thread on it. Have fun 👍😎

Been daily driving my Slash for 10 years now. 😎

Welcome aboard!!! Theres tons of parts still available for the slash platform so I dont see any issue with reviving them. The Slash is probably the most common Traxxas vehicle out there. The updates since yours were released are pretty substantial, mainly LCG chassis's and upgraded electronics and lots of aluminum bits but I see no reason you couldn't modernize what you have. I'd check out JennysRC.com for factory replacement parts and Castle Creations or Hobbywing for a better electronics option.

Jennysrc.com sells new take off parts cheap. They are a solid supplier and have great customer support for questions about what fits what.

I am restoring 40year old Kyoshos. RC restos can and SHOULD be done!!!

Welcome to RCTALK.COM!!!😎👍😁

Considering has been done. You are here now. You must do.
star wars try GIF

You'll probably be able to pick up parts at your favorite 7-11 (sarcasm). 😁

Welcome to the fold!

Welcome to RCT! The Slash hasn't changed a lot mechanically wise, so yeah you can still get parts. you can even upgrade to newer style slash parts! you wont know what you will need until you hook up a battery to it, but considering that the batteries have been lying around for 8 years, my opinion is first buying new batteries. I had bought one off a guy that bought it in 2009 and only played with it a few times before putting it away. it just needed a new battery! Also, could we see some pictures of your rc car(s), we love to drool over other peoples projects...

New batteries are the plan but resisting T___ brand. And everyone in the battery game then, is gone now... I don't wanna buy sleeping fire incidents. What's everyone using? I can't believe the ones on Amazon are worth the money either without hearing it from those already in the frey of battery choices.

Cheap amazon batteries are fine. But CNHL or Ovonic for better quality. B6 charger works fine. No need to go nuts. If it is no good its only 20 bucks.
