considering a drone

I had a friend come over today and he brough this dji mini 3. i had a blast with it, the flying was kinda blah, it was cool for a min then was like a car ride, i just was waiting to reach my destination.
but then he showed me the active tracking, and that was REALLY cool!
i started thinking how cool it would be to have a dedicated drone to record my trucks while their on the trail/ i think it would be the bees knees personally lol
so now I'm in qa rabbit hole
I'm pretty sold on the dji drones, they seem to eb the most beginner friendly and good quality for their prices, his mini 3 was really cool but I'm not sure how well it would work while walking thru wooded trails, the mini 5 seems to have slightly better obstacle avoidance but at the same time its never going to be perfect. its going to eventually crash.

how difficult is it to repair a drone are parts easily attained like an rc trucks? would i need to get the license if I'm not trying to monetize anything? ( that seems to be a big deal)

I'm not planning on trying to race cars, or fly to the moon, just want a high quality video following my truck the the woods, does anyone have any suggestions on a drone to check out?

I'm looking at the mini3 - mini 5- the 5 seems to be much more inline with my wants other than the pricetag

Maybe start small with a selfie stick to film the truck from low angles. 20 dollar commitment but makes the videos look good. Drone shots are cool but somewhat impractical for a trail run. I would get a cool drone for the sake of enjoying the drone overall. Something legal. Since they banned a bunch.

I’ve got a DJI mini 4 pro. Absolutely love it, have taken many pics and videos with it for my boss. Highly recommend it if you’re really in the hunt for one.

I tend to agree with Ponky, get a few cams you can place on the trails. Walk a head and put them on lines. (Ask me how I know )

Back in the day I had a Blade 350QX. I had wished I bought a DJI because all us owners got to RND it for HH.

I crashed it bad twice. Once required a new frame (body), I just moved everything over piece by piece. They aren't hard to work on with your experience.

I wish I still had this horrible, terribly shot video where I tried to follow my SCX10 WHILE flying the quad. LOL gt's

Make sure you check all drone regulations. Just to post a video or picture that is taken with a drone can't be published online without you having a commercial drone license

yeah I've been looking at that license id have to get if i wanted to post the videos online some crazy regulations i dont agree with but at the same time i understand the regulation and its neccesity, id definately want to score the 107, but since I'm not interested in monetizing anything it should fall under the recreational and i would only need to pass the TRUST test. I'm not trying to make any money or promote anything other than my own entertainment by following the trucks on trails. in ky they really draw the line there. if I'm getting paid i gotta have the 107, if I'm not i SHOULD fall unde the rec

A buddy of mine is big into drones. He has taken all kinds if footage and posted online without issues that I'm aware of.
I know he was looking at licensing because it was needed for legit commercial activity. If you wanted to record a concert and fly over a crowd, also to advertise for paid gigs...weddings etc. Rules may have changed, but I didn't think private use filming you rc would be an issue.

Doesn't matter if you don't monetize or plan to monetize. The faa sees it as personal promotion. And with the increased drone use in military. Faa has been cracking down

far as I know 107 waiver only needed if your going to make $ with your drone commercially. Recreational flyers have more flying freedom. I have couple Skyrovers X1 & S1 cheaper than DJI just as capable. Unsure why RCT has no RC Drone Category

That's what most people assume but do your research any personal promotion aka posting media from a drone to social media.
