I'm just getting into the sport of nitro rc. I'm planning on buying a nitro rc vehicle. I really have no idea which one to get though. Here basically what I'm looking for: Something that is reliable, fast, and durable. I probably wont start upgrading right away but i plan on expanding on whatever i buy in the future. I've owned a goped for a while so things breaking on a regular basis is nothing knew to me, and I'm pretty good at fixing mechanical problems. I for sure want to go off-road but i havent decided between a stadium, or monster truck. I've mainly been looking at the traxxas nitro rustler and t-maxx. But i know theres more out there and I'm not sure if there is something that will fit my needs better. Thanks for any replys, i really need the advice.

Go monster truck and go anywhere.

I suggest in this order:

Savage RTR
TMaxx RTR

They have the most available in aftermarket that I have seen (although there are a couple of new up and comings )

I think the Savage is the better bang for the buck. I have both, so I feel as if I'm qualified to say so. Most would argue this point but only have one or the other.

Stadium trucks are nice, but only suited for track conditions if you ask me.

On road will come to you later after you are completely addicted.

8th scale buggies ARE the bomb! But unless you are running on a track, you will need to be better at finding good surface to run on. They wont go nearly the places a monster truck will go. But they are probably the MOST durrable of any Nitro Offroad R.C. out there.

Hope this helps.

I have a st, mt and a buggy. I have to agree that a mt will go almost anywhere, and a st is mostly for a track only. In my opinion a buggy is the most fun, but I drive it mostly on a track. I have a T-Maxx, but would agree that a savage ( limited exp.) is a better rtr than a T-Maxx. It all depends on what terrain, $, and mostly $. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll have fun with any of the above. As long as it's NITRO!

The thing i was worried about monster trucks is they whellie a lot dont they? But that isnt that big of an issue i dont think (as far as problems as a result of it doing them) or is it? I will deffinentaly look into the savage. O ya also as far as long term usage goes, does the savage have a lot of support from the aftermarket companys? Because upgrades are deffinentaly something i plan on investing on eventually.

Wheelie? If you are lucky, or set it up to do so. T-Maxx speeking anyway.

Savage all the way!! My friend has a stadium truck and he can only do half the stuff i can do with my savage. Stadium trucks also break more than the savage. Go here http://hpiracing.com/index2.htm and look around at HPI's stuff...it's great.

O sorry Çh®i§tiªñ i must have overlooked that in your first response, thanks everyone for all of the responses my mind is made up on the savage.

accually the new savages with the .25 wheelie stock :) i have a video of a review of the truck they broke it in and it was a wheelie machine in the grass.. if your worried about wheelies either A put a wheelie bar on the truck or adjust the low end so it bogs down a tad or, get a differnt clutch bell.

wait scratch the wheelies i belive they put a set of big joes on it then were doing wheelies so i dunno. heres the review if you wanna read it.

Two more things came to mind....is rolling a problem for monster trucks (because of the higher center of gavity) and how does the savage perform top speed, I've heard that a T-maxx will beat it, that doesn't bother me as long as its still reasonably fast.

I am running the Mammoth and it is krazy fast. No roll overs and no wheelies. Just throwing this out as another option. This the only MT I have owned so I can not compare it to the others. I guess it really all depends on what kind of bashing you are planning on doing.

I am a firm beleiver that the Savage will stand up to the most amount of abuse then any of the other MTs out there. The new CEN genesis shares the same theory in chassis design so it may be as tough but there are ALOT to choose from these days. In no particular order these are my top choices these days:

Associated MGT
Savage
T-Maxx

The Savage and T-maxx both have TONS and TONS of aftermarket support. The MGT is getting there but has alot of other great features.

So can anyone guess how fast it is, or how fast it is compared to some other mt's?

Did somebody say reefer?

WHen it comes to an all around fun and brutal RC you can't go wrong with a MT. I've got lots of various RC's but more often then not I'm bashing and racing an MT. MT's are addictive to say the least. In order of my favorite keeping in mind that the Maxx is a great truck but needs allot more hop-up money comparatively......

HPI Savage .25RTR or SSKit
Team Associated Monster GT
Traxxass T-Maxx
