I was just wondering what the signs are of a bad clutch? When I'm starting it up can see the gear wanting to spin. Will try to spin at a low idle. Can drive around full bore will go maybe 5 mph. If you pick it up tire will spin at full speed it seems like. I'm just wondering what this could be?

just got done doing that. the flywheel was a little chewed up. I tried switching the clutch around didn't have any better results. When I took the motor out. I could also tell where it had been leaking a little fuel around the hsn on the carb  which is why I just bought this new carb to begin with. Neither of the glow plugs I ordered with the carb work and the copper gasket for the head they sent already had some black specs on it when i got it that I can't get off. Will be the last time I order from that store on ebay.

Anyway though. I'm going to take it back apart clean everything up seal it up again. When you're sealing the HSN do you have to have where fuel line hooks up in a certain spot? Do you just use green slime on the needles? Is there a better clutch I could order for the Slayer 3.3? I have no clue what type of clutch is on it. Has two shoes with a spring around them.

it makes no diff where the fuel nipple points ..just be sure it points the right way so you can hook up your fuel line to it ...i also seal the washers that are on each side of the nipple ...

as for the clutch ..i would get a 3 shoe aluminum one with individual springs ..they are pretty cheap ...i never had good luck with the stock traxxas clutches ..i also have a 2 shoe aluminum that uses the stock spring ...its been good so far

Both are good to know thanks. Last time I stripped out the HSN trying to put it back in there the exact way it came out. I seen the little holes in there didn't know if they lined up a certain way or not. For sealing on the carb you use green slime?

The 3 shoe clutch, is that sold with everything I'll need to convert it over?

Where the gear is on the tranny I'm noticing that it looks kinda worn in there. Not the gear itself but whatever is behind it. Has little pads in there. How would you go about checking that?

use the green slime just on the needle seals ...the HSN housing needs silicone ( high temp sensor safe )

some clutches come with everything you need ...some dont ....if you go with a 3 show one , youll need the flywheel , springs and shoes ..the one i bought had everything i needed

that gear your talking about is the spur gear and where the pads are , thats the slipper clutch ....it should be tight enough so that you can barely turn it ( make it slip ) by hand ( while locking the shaft on the other side with a pin or something else ) ...dont over tighten the slipper clutch nut ....you will flatten the spring washers

Alright I have that silicone already. The copper will work for that too? Was looking for one on ebay seen that most of them came with everything. Except don't know what one to get. Going to go look at the parts list for slayer and get a number for the clutch.

I was wondering what the hole was in that shaft for the other day. I was like hmm doesn't seem like its missing anything there because it seems tight and if you put anything in there that stuck out any it'd hit on the case.

Thanks for all the information so far. Hopefully it is just that clutch. Because I could notice it loosing speed the other day kept adjusting on the carb couldn't get ne speed out of it then last night and this morning was just horrible like 5 mph.

Just checked that was spinning almost freely. Has very little drag on it at all. I just put a allen wrench through there and was spinning it. Thats the way I took how you said to check it.

the copper is what most people use ;) ...your problem might just be the slipper clutch ..tight it down and give it a try ...and if your truck tries to move forward when you try to start it , you probably have a clutch problem ....but i still suggest you get rid of the stock clutch ...people say the integy clutches are good ..i never had one ...i have one from ''hot racing ''

How do you tighten that down?

The two spring clutch had some wear marks on the flywheel also. So will deff replace that. Looked on slayer parts list didn't have a 3 spring upgrade part number. I'll have to look at them some more.

I was just wondering I was running it through some grass and it was kinda dragging on the bottom slowing it down. Would that be what gave me this clutch problem?

there should be a nut at the center of the spur gear .....making the truck work hard , might cause the clutch to over heat and fail

here is a clutch that would work ....just type '' slayer clutch '' on ebay ;) ..you will need a clutch nut that has a groove for the springs in it ...but you can also use the original one ...just have to make a groove in it with a file or a rotary tool

also ..would be a good idea to get some spare clutch bell bearings ;)

alright thanks. I think I try to define my search to much and never end up with anything good. Just stock parts usually or parts idk if they'd work. I was looking for a kit with all the bearings and that included or buy the bearings seperate. I might try to just order the parts to widen it up and stiffer springs and oil for shocks maybe some different tires to if I can find a place that has it all in one place to save on shipping. I'll look for some parts and try to find them all in one place that has them all at a decent price. If not order them seperate.

Thanks for all your help.

Do You Have A LHS Nearby?

Alot of lhs carry traxxas parts and if you do have a lhs nearby they have all the manuals on hand so that takes out the guess work and saves you time and some money in the long run. Sometimes you just have to go to the lhs to get the advice and parts you need but you pay just a little bit more. This is the case for me anyways. Hope this helps, Steve.
