i am new to the nitro world. i just bought a xxx nt. it idled great through 3 tanks and then ran very well on the first run. i made some needle adjustments and now it is idling too high and wants to move. i have to keep the brake on to keep the car still. once i let off the brake it revs really high and wants to go. i tried adjusting the idle stop screw but this doesn't seem to help. what could be wrong? i would appreciate some help. thanks.

still I would keep tring the idle stop screw and the throttle trim on your radio, but if that doesn't work it might be too lean

Well there are a few things that could cause it to idle very high.
It could be running to lean which I would think is part of the problem . Lean on the hsn or lsn or the idle screw is set incorrectly or you linkages are not set correctly.. Pull off the carb and see how much space is there when you have the motor off is should be about 1 to 1.5 cm let us know that first. X

so if the high needle is too lean then it will try and go instead of just idling? or are you talking about the low needle being too lean?

well it could be both but most likely the the high speed needle because it also gives fuel to the low speed, but did you mess with the low speed? if not most likely its the high speed then

yes, i messed with the low needle. i guess maybe i should close both needles and reset them to factory and go from there.

Man look at you go mike. You the lil man all good advice good eye on my cm mistake. Normally fattening up the hs will cause it to idle down but if you messed with the ls that could cause an issue also

Also what motor are you running akprice that will

thanks for the help. the local hobby shop tech has been such a prick. he has made me feel inferior and stupid for bringing my truck in there with these problems. so i am going to have to learn how to fix my truck myself, which i want to be able to so anyway. i guess it will just take some time.

Any real R/C guy will always help new people out. It's what makes the hobby grow and develop. Most guys in this hobby will bend over backwards to help you out. Nitro has a learning curve, and can be kid of tricky at times. Don't sweat it, come here and you will find the most helpful people around. There are guys here who have a reputation for being shall we say aggressive, but they are usually the first ones to help out with questions. This is a cool place stick around you will learn a lot about R/C.

alot of folks dont realise (lack of info) the HSN effects the LSN. HSN is upstream of LSN and is like the master valve.

Reset it all and retune. Dial in the HSN then check the idel adjust the LSN a tiny bit if you need to .

Check the LSN with the pinch test. at idle pinch the fuel line close to the carb. if it dies you are too lean. if it reves up and then dies it is a bit rich. rich is ok. as long as it will idle. the LSN will also effect take off acceleration. too lean it will die right off.

Generaly you wont mess with the LSN. I havent even touched mine on my OS .15 Hyper. just the HSN.

But i live in AZ and the weather doesn't change much here.

Be sure to check the sites and forums for more info. Traxas has a good guide for tuning. the basics are the same for all.

AND I HATE ****y pushy and snoddy hobby workers. I try to get them fired first time i hear it. they suck. I hat even more how some shops push what is in stock even if it contradicts what they said the day before.

I want to open my own shop and hire guys who know nothing abbout R/C and train them right and with a smile.

sorry for the rant good luck
