I can't seem to get my clutch bell off. I've removed the clutch bell screw but the bell doesn't want to come off. Is there something that i might be missing or should i resort to brute force???

what mill is it?

There is a bearing inside the bell that attaches the bell to the crankshaft. Sometimes that bearing gets stuck and makes it tough to remove the bell housing. Wrap a napkin around the bell, as not to scratch it and try to remove it with a good set of pliers.

Look to see if there is an E-clip as well.
Also follow the advice above.
If all else fails you may need to give it a gentle pry from the bottom with a screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the fly wheel.

be careful with this technique though, as u can also dmage the bearing inside the bell housing. i would recommend trying to remove it with plyers first, as this gives even pressure all around the bell, but if this is unsuccessful, try Eddy's idea, as it will give u more leverage. good luck!

I just fried my clutch to the inside of my clutchbell and it was hell getting it off. The entire clutch melted to soup and was not wanting to let go of the clutch bell. When my engine was new it was also hard to get off because of the clutchbell bearings so if you not melted like I was then NA is right about the bearing holding it on.

If the bell wont come off, the only thing that can be holding it on is the bearing. If you use anything more than your fingers to take the bell off you will need to replace the bearings.

Using pliers to take it off will exceed the limits of the bearings. If it got hot enough to expand the race enough that you can't get it off without help, replace it. The clutch bearing set is the hardiest working bearing set outside the mill. Have I said replace it yet. If not, you should replace it.

Have you replaced it yet?

i agree eddy, i was assuming he would know that if the reason the bell housing wont come off is due to the fact that the bearing is stuck, then it would probably be a good idea to replace said bearing.

replace the bearing replace the bearing replace the bearing replace.....

Funny you should say that. After prying and pulling and finally getting the clutch bell off, i took a look at the bell and all of the ball bearings fell out :whhooo: Guess i need to replace the bearing. Now do i need to replace both of them or just the one on the inside of the clutch bell??? Thanks for the help guys.

the only one that would HAVE to be replaced would be the one inside the bell, however, since bearings are rather cheap, u might as well replace both, while u have it apart.
