I'm all for self-expression and the like, but some of these folks are taking things to the extreme of being nasty and risk permanent disfigurement should they ever decide it's not for them anymore.

That is just plain wrong. It reminds me of half of a shoe (the middle half).
Anyways, it's kinda like my brother (tattoo-wise); he has a tattoo of Fredd Krueger on his right forearm. Somehow, I have a feeling he's gonna have a hard time explaining that one to any kids he has (haven't talked to him in 10+ years).

I just met a chick who had the same thing done the other day. She had got the work done at some crappy tat shop and several of the pieces got infected, so now she has to wear this big cast thingy around her stomach..... Nasty.

I did my tongue and eybrow in 91 while I was a bike messenger....I ditched the eyebrow ring when I got it caught on the terry cloth on the back of my cycling glove while riding a track bike down 5th ave(w/ no handbrake) because I wiped some sweat off my brow......yeah near death experience over jewelry was not something I considered before doing it....LOL
