Charging rate question

Hi, I've got the venom 1600 mAh nimh battery and a primal charger. The charger has 4 rates (1,2,3 and 4 amps). I know the common method is 1 amp per 1000 mAh, so at 1600 mAh should I charge at 1 amp or 2 amp? Gut instinct says 1 but I dont know

If it's a receiver pack I'd charge at 1A, a stick pack I'd do 2A.

I'm thinking it's a stick pack (it's going in the back of my Jato)

Is it a receiver pack? If so, I'd stick with 1A. With 2/3A cells, 2A will probably be too much. I actually charge mine at .5A just to extend their life. The hotter they get charging, the shorter their life is. I try not to be in a hurry when it comes to batteries.
