Dumb question for you all. I don't have any experience with starter boxes yet, but my friend just bought one... he got the 10249 model that has the front pannel connectors and the built in battery. Well, he has no idea how to charge it, and nor do I. I can tell that you use the bananna conectors to plug directly into the + and - of it, but what I couldn't help him with is what kind of charger to get for it. Do you guys know what charger to use on this thing and where to get it? Thank you in advance... I just don
t know what direction to point him in.

It depends on the type of battery that is in the starter box and I don't know what battery comes with that package. I picked up a wall charger that I added banana clips. I have the 12v lead acid battery.
 
Yeah... it's a 12v battery, but it's just wierd that nowhere does it say anything about being recharged or by what charger... just that it is a rechargable. The thing is crazy heavy, so it must be a lead acid... that's the first thing that came to mind when I picked it up the first time anyway.

What charger did you pick up? I don't know what I should be looking for... the banana clips are no biggie, but I just don't even know what I should be looking for for him. What "12v" charger did you pick up?

He's going to order one up today. Thanx again guys. I'll tell him to just roll up to Radio Slack to find the banana plugs for it.
 
Dont bother with the bananna plugs. Its only one screw to open the starter box and just clip them on. Works great that way.

I forgot to mention....... Kind of important too!

Depending on how he has the battery situated, and where he decides to clip on the charging alligator clips, he may want to watch for both leads touching the starter box itself. If both hit the box, chances are he may get more than he bargained for.

He may be right about wiring up the plugs if his box is situated in a bad way for that kind of connection.

Sometimes you can position the battery so that you can access the terminals from the outside of the box. Thats what I try to do. Even drilling a hole in the box to make it work for how you have setup is o.k..

I wouldnt normally carry on about something like this, but lets just say.....well.....it wasn't a good experience that led me to post this in the first place :mex:
 
Haha, yeah I bet! Well, I will give him a hand... it does look like it will be tight because there are two little access holes by the + and - of the battery, but they are definitly little that's for sure. If it can't be safely done, we'll just go with the banana connectors... they put em' there, might as well use them! Chances are that's why they put them there anyway... among other reasons too. Thanx for the tip.
 
Haha, I hear ya, no worries. Well, he still hasn't picked the box up from my house yet, so I am thinking about setting it up for my buggy for the time being anyway :lick: Thanx man.
 
It's just like that game... OPERATION... lol

I just picked up a Commercial 12v Starter/Supply pack that I use with my box... No more batts...

What do you mean you picked up a commercial 12v Starter/Supply pack for it? What is that?
 
The one I got isn't this brand or model, but it's generally the same thing.

Oh... just a jump pack/power supply for a car. Alright, that makes sense. You just use that for your 12v instead of the built in battery? That's kind of cool. At least you don't have to worry about it dying and you know what the power is at any given point. The battery in this box... I don't know how replacable it is though, I was going to pop it out to take a closer look at the battery but couldn't. Almost like they clipped or glued it in or something. I took all of the screws around it out from the bottom, but it would not come out. Anyway, thanx again.
 
Dont take the battery out.... Just take the set of Car Battery leads that came with your box, or buy a set & just hook them right up to the alligator clips on the booster pack. It lasts forever on a full charge.. They also sell them with built in inverters.. Great for a soldering iron, dremel....etc
