I'm looking to get my mom some rechargeable AA's for her various gadgets. She burns through a lot of alkalines. I was wondering if I combined 2, 4 cell holders(stock rx holders) and charged them at .8 amps, if that would be sufficient. The charger I plan to use can charge 7.2 to 12 volt packs. .8 to 1.9 amps. My other one can charge from 1 to 2 amps. Thanks as always.

Theretically it would be ok. However, I used to charge Energizer rechargables at 1.0A but realised after a some time that they didn't like that. They simply started dying quicker and quicker. I read of somebody else here who charges them at .5A with no issues so that's what I do now since I replaced my Energizers.

Thanks lesson. Maybe the .8 as opposed to 1 amp may help. I run a fan on bats when charging and monitor the temps regularly.

With 1A they don't do as well. The AA platters aren't as big as the 2/3A platters, so they can't take a charge as fast or dispense of current as fast. Keep an eye on the cell temps. They will get pretty warm at 1A.

I've been charging mine at .5A and they last a few years. I use them in my radio and I make receiver packs out of 5 of them. It's nice to have a 2300mah receiver pack... the vehicles run all day long.

Maybe I'll charge them in intervals until I get a proper charger. Maybe let them hit 90 degrees, cool off, and then go again. Anything beats the price of alkalines. Thanks for all the info guys. You guys make life a little easier and a lot cheaper!
