Hey peeps, i recently got the ELECTRIC 1/18 cen mini madness truck .
Just for kicking around in my garden...

but the thing keeps stopping... i run it for a little bit then the lights on the ESC go out and it's like totally dead.. tried multiple fully charged batterys so i know thats not the problem.. anyway when i push the ESC box down the lights come back on...and it works. so i thought i would just tape the ESC box down with tape since pushing it down helped but then it didn't work at all...

any ideas on this please?

sorry was meant to post this in the 1/18 section.. can it be moved?.. made a mistake. Thanx

Sounds like a loose connection in the ESC. You may want to contact either the place you purchased it from or CEN directly and get a replacement.

Or, you can replace it with a brushless system.

man i bought it off ebay :\
i thought i couldnt go wrong with electric.. i must be the unluckiest person in the world.

Ask CEN anyway, you might get lucky and get it replaced FOC. You never know unless you ask!

Failing that, like HB says, you could just use it as a good excuse to save up and buy a better setup.

i may do... but I'm gonna see if the seller will give me my money back first,, he only lives 10 minutes away from me.. and when i first rang him he said it was stopping for him aswell but it only happened a couple of times then it stopped happening..

when i took the ESC box off and the ESC board there was some runny white stuff all underneath..looked like paint.. maybe it was glue? but it wasn't sticky...

anyway i have noticed that when i push the wires down that connect to the motor and ESC it starts to work again... so maybe it's a problem in the connection with the wires?

but i will call him back today and ask for a refund.see what he says.. I've hastily given good feedback though...

When will i ever learn my lesson..:\ :)

If pushing the wires down makes it work, and there's no obvious fraying or breakage, it sounds like it's either a dry solder joint, which is an easy fix (heat it up with the iron and a bit of flux until the solder is fluid, then let it set again, or it's a cracked track it's a bit more complicated, especially if it's a multi-layer PCB.

I'd try the seller first, but failing that the above might be useful later :)

Thanx Britcrawler... i'll call him tonight and see what he says... I've already given him good feedback so he could just refuse to give my money back as he has nothing to loose.. but he seemed like a really nice ,polite guy... so hopefully he'll do the right thing..

i did look at brushless set up but they seem to be expensive and also the truck aint made that great... the shocks are very plastic and cheap looking and i think if it ran any faster it would just fall apart... i just wanna get rid of it now...

As long as you don't hit anything, this shouldn't be an issue, really.

Seriously; you would be amazed how well these little guys hold up to insane power. Failing a response from the seller, you may want to find someone will intermediate soldering skills, and have them trace down the fault. Or you can get a new ESC and put into it. It's not all that hard.

Now, as for that white gunk; typically, that's not a good sign. But, that could be something as simple as the type of adhesive used to fix the ESC to the chassis.

Thank you Heartbreak ...i probably would have asked someone to look at it but fortunatly after calling the seller earlier, he offered to refund my money..

i knew he was a decent guy, i could tell that when i met him...i almost feel bad giving it back now that he was so nice about it but i can put the money i get back from it towards something else, maybe a mini T or something in the 1/18 scale area..
thanx everyone..as usual you never let me down with good advice...much appreciated :)

No problem. But do have a look at the RC18 series. They're 4WD, come in a variety of "flavors", and they're pretty much little tanks. I've yet to seriously injure mine (although I did pop a shock seal off).

Glad to hear you got it sorted Grrlracer. It's nice to know there's still *some* decent folk left on eBay. :)

I've returned it back now and he gave me my money back and was very apologetic and polite..

so that's that...

i've always liked the tamiya lunchbox and the wild willys..which have the same motor as this cen did..so i know the speed they will go,which i think is pretty fast...

so i may get a lunchbox or a wild willy next!
