hey guys, these past couple of times i have been running my XTM 24.7 it's max temp has been 160!!! that was also for a full tank of fuel. is it bad to be running that cool or what?

bryan

Yes.

The effective performance of the piston/sleeve is dependent on heat. If the parts don't heat enough, compression will be off. Especially if you were running at higher temperatures during break-in. You want to get the engine heated so that the piston and sleeve expand properly to make their most effective seal.

Of course, I could be wrong......

so then what temp should i be running at? i got my lsn rich and she shoots out a hella nice stream of smoke.

bryan

Most will say tune for performance, not temp. But typically, most engines that I've worked with run around 250.

she is at the optimal performance. it wheelies off the line and is so fast it is scary.

Hmmmm, something sounds off... Might see if a friend has a temp gun and see what kind of readings he gets on his gun... How long have you had your temp gun?

it is a venow temp guage. it aint that the gauge is wrong because i can hold the head forever and not get soo hot that i have to take it off.

Thats too cold you need to lean it out alot, did you happen to change fuels. Like 30 to 20 or like brand?

supermaxx - i also use a venom temp gauge, and it is consistantly about 50 degrees too cool. i use my raytek temp gun too, which i know is completly accurate. just today on my buggy, my raytek clocked the temp at 282, and the venom temp gauge said the max temp during the run was only 214.

yes bmoc i did go for 20% o'donnell to 20% traxxas.

nitro addict- the wierd thing tho is that it feels only like 160. it is just barely warm. it was like 30 degrees here today and it was just barely warm?

bryan

but, when i ran o'donell it ran exactly like this. but it isnt running bad it is running awsome. i just dont know if it will do anything running it that cool. tommorrow at the track i will lean them just a hair and see what i get.

Is that the one I sold you? Do you have it installed correctly? I am just asking cuz that doesn't sound right. I was told they are pretty accurate, but like I said I ended up buying an extech temp gun and never installed the vtm to compare.

hey guys, i just was trying to run my truck outside. right now it is about 25 degrees and snowing outside. i got it started and the stupid thing wont move. the engine reves up and it makes like a clicking noise? anywayz it idles really good and it didnt get above 120F while idling for about 10 mins.
