I used to do that, but at some point, I broke a MIP 2mm speed bit at the tip, then I heated it with a torch to bend it to use for ball end installs. I broke another, so now I have a second for my field bag. Works great with a powered driver.

Get it started a couple threads, then hold the tie rod with pliers, stick the hook in the ball end and slowly screw it on in whatever direction it needs to go.
