I can't decide which brushless system to put into my slash. I have heard that the losi exceleron system is better than the Velinion system. Any thoughts?

Personally I would go with Novak. They have been around a long time and in my opinion... (which is just that, my opinion... I don't want to start a flame war) they are reliable and perform well. I think they are easy to use and setup. I have several GTB brushless combos and they all perform very well.

Again just my opinion.

How fast do you want to go? How many cells do you plan on running? What is your budget?

I'm hoping to use the 4200 7cell nimh batteries that i just spent $100 on. And I'm looking at a couple hundred for the B/L setup. But i wana try and get at least the same run-time I'm getting with the brushed setup now.

I shopped around for quite a while for my Lazer before I finally purchased a CC Mamba Max setup and I have been 100% satisfied (thanks to Sweetdiesel). I also run Nimh packs with my brushless setup.

Most any 1/10 brushless system will get equal or more run time versus the brushed motor because the brushless motors are much more efficient.

A Mamba Max give you the most programming options, and should you decide to run lipos you can easily run a higher cell count. The VXL is less expensive, but I haven't run one for myself so I couldn't tell you how good it is. I know others here on RCNT have given it rave reviews.

Another option is to run a Quark Roadster ESC with a Feigao 540 size motor. The Roadsters go for about $140 or less on ebay, and the Feigao will set you back $60. Quark makes extremely smooth controllers, but don't have the programming ease and options of the Mamba Max.

All you guys, and your programming! LOL

Who brings there laptop to the dusty dirty track anyway? :D

I don't run Novak anymore. I'm strictly a Castle man after having at least 4 systems from each brand. For that Slash, you could run the Castle Sidewinder system, for $120 brand new. It will give you the same performance as the Mamba Max basically, it features the same start up routines and programming features, and it will handle 3S LiPo on the 4600 system.

I wouldn't run anything but Castle in the slash, because of needing the programming options for traction and such.

Also, the Castle ESC's feature components that are coated in some sort of epoxy, and they're fairl water resistant. I've seen person after person on here smoke their Novak stuff, and I haven't seen anyone burn up a mamba system. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying that I haven't seen it yet, but I've seen my friends return 7 systems to Novak in the last 4 or 5 months.

I have a laptop that I use just for rock crawling and racing, and its always at the comp or track with me to tune on the Mamba Max systems. I learn by trial and error much better than by reading something because my brain is fried, so having my laptop at the track or at the crawler course allows me to work on my tune and learn what works along the way.

Don't forget that the sidewinder uses the optional castle link chip/harness to program so factor in the extra 20 bucks for that cable. The sidewinder is also only rated up to a 5700 Kv motor and can handle roughly 2/3 the current of the Mamba Max. Think wisely about which other rigs you might want to run the system in for the future and be sure that the sidewinder will meet your needs.

So what is the difference between a CC sidewinder and a Mamba Max? Also, is the Sidewinder with ESC the price quoted?
For that Slash, you could run the Castle Sidewinder system, for $120 brand new. .

The thing to remember here is that its easy to go too much in the slash. I have the Velineon in the slash with a 3s is borderline too much for anything other than madness.
Remember that the Velenion is supposedly only 3500kv, although I have repeatedly stated that its closer to 5000kv. (I believe sweetdiesel said he could test my theory) I personally dont like Novak all that much but am also a big fan of Castle Creations.
If programming isn't really needed, and lets face it, if you're not racing then its not, then I would go VXL. Simple, cheap, reliable and effective.

I'd probably do that or the losi exceleron system. Either way, how could i get 15-20 min of runtime with brushless and not go lipo?

I would go with some form of the mamba. The sidewinder and mamba max are both nice. in the mamba max you can have a 3 cell on the 5400 system but i have this system in my xxx-t and at a quarter throttle my car flips over back wards. and they have one of the best costumer service. I would not go with the novak, I don't like them. I had an hv pro in my emaxx and it shorted out and they said it was water damage but the funny thing was that there were no puddle because we didn't have rain for 2 months.:D

Ok offiser. The VXL is great, and the Losi Exceleron have had rave reviews. Keep it simple and you'll be happy.
I dont think you'll get 15-20 minutes on NiMh. Brushless is waaaaaay more efficient but I think you're still pushing the limits.
Pick up a 7 cell at around 5000 and you may come close.

I am sure you can find bigger, but no too much.
