I currently own two C C M M combos. Absolutely love them. I've used Tekin equipment, extremely impressed with them.
Now......my brushless amazement point. I know traxxas doesn't get much respect, sometimes they put that on themselves ( I own/ have owned many traxxas) but to me they are super spot on with the vxl line combos. I've hard some bad luck stories with them ( as with any product) but my own experience with these gems is awesome! And...you can't beat the price and the power option if tear one out. I truly love them, not a complaint to be found with me. If the would only produce an 1/8 scale combo.
( now is where someone tells me who the real manufacturer is and I'm stumped!)
Anyway, just my opinion from my own use and abuse of them.:f:p:

I ran a vxl combo for 2 years and put it thru the ringer, mine was pretty smooth, i guess there are good ones and bad ones i guess i got the good one.

It cogs because its sensor less.

I guess its a hit or miss things with all companies.
I had a castle system fry on me within a week E-maxx
But once replaced it ran like a champion. I overheard one guy completing at my lhs that his rx8 (i have no clue what this is) esc burnt out in one use.

I've also seen alot of good luck with cheapo ones too. Like hobbywing and what not.

I personally melted a Velineon motor a couple of weeks back on 3s...........it was hauling ass though

I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever with Hobbywing & Beeman. Very tunable, smooth, and thus far I have yet to cook one. I'm running a Beeman X8 ESC & 2150KV 700 series motor in my Prolite 4x4, a Hobbywing SC10 ESC & 10T 540 motor in my RC10T and a Hobbywing 60A sensorless & 9T 540 in the wife's buggy.

I just put a Dynamite Fuze 130A ESC in my Warthog buggy (RC10GT E-converted desert buggy build), pushing a Reedy SL550 3500KV 550 can. Jury is still out on that one, but it seems good so far. Cogs a bit at low speed, but that rig is geared very steep with a 24T pinion to a 62T spur, going through the 2.65:1 GT trans out to 1/8 scale buggy wheels.

I personally own 3 CC MM systems and I have not had a single problem with any of them yet (maybe lucky, I guess).

But I do like what Traxxas has been doing with the Vilenion systems. I would love to see them put out a 1/8th motor and 8s capable esc that is sensored. I think that would be a huge moneymaker for them and the public would eat it up (if it were done well).

The VXL ESC isn't a sensored ESC and that motor won't make a difference

I've never tried it, but the manual says it can run sensored motors....I haven't even looked at mine, it's a 2009ish version that's not even waterproof, so I don't know if it has the option or not.

The motor will still cog without the sensor on the Velineon VXL systems.

Agreed. My CC systems are excellent and I would say superior, but in my experience the VXL is an amazing bang for the buck. Plus, all things break, smoke, fry, cease, etc....The "power up" option is just great. It's kinda like insurance on some real important pieces of your rc.
A VXL 1/8 combo would be great IMO. I would definitely give a go.

Wolf, they do make a 1/8 scale system, the Mamba Monster is for 1/8 scale. They even have an HV version for the 1/5 scale rigs.

Id take the CC systems over a Traxxas system any day of the week if Traxxas produced a 1/8 scale combo IMO.

Hamz, I think Wolf is talking about an actual Traxxas system...like a 1/8 scale VXL. They could call it VXXL.

Traxxas uses the Mamba Monster on the XO-1 as well as their eRevo and E-Maxx, so they don't need the "VXXL'. lol

After reading this I looked at my VXL-3 esc and it does have a sensor port, it has a rubber plug in it from the factory...I never noticed this before.
