kwong - the prebuilt does NOT come with cells.

mvickj - that sounds like a good price, as long as it is fairly new.

if u bought the ofna multibox like i have then i would recommend only stick packs. they are easier to recharge, are lighter, install more efficiantlly, and cost a reasonable amount of money.

if u dont want to go with high end packs - u can pick up to 1500ma packs for about 15.00 ea. u will only get about 4-5minutes and then u will have to recharge, but when u think about it, thats a long time, considering u will only run it about 2-5 seconds at a time, when starting.

Hmm..ok. I will consider sticking with the stick packs. I own a few from a different RC. They are a little old but still hold a charge. Maybe next payday I will look into getting the higher end packs. I just received an EM from the seller. He told me that the starter box would be in the mail today. :) I can't wait.

if u already have packs, then use them!!!! best thing to do is have four. then while u are using 2 u can be charging 2. trust me, the startbox is such a jump in happiness that u will feel as if u have gone to heaven!

can't u hook up a starter box to a car battery?

i'm a new ntc3 owner and damn, PS sucks heh

mcvickj, i'm gonna try what u tried to get mine started. i'm having problems getting her started too.
what nitro % are u using?

also, i'm a total n00b. when tuning the valves, is a 1 turn = a full 360degree turn?

Yes, 1 turn is a full 360

Personally I prefer the 12v gel cell. The Hobbico ones have worked great for me. A cheap overnight charger works great, and so far, I've only had to charge them once at the beginning of the season.

Sorry, forgot, yes, most boxes can be hooked up to a car battery.

nitro110 - I am using O'Donnell 20%. Most of the guys in my local RC club runs this. Mostly becuase that is all the LHS carries. Well that and Traxxas fuel.

Christian - Does installing a gell cell into the starter box require any wire cutting and solidering? I just purchased the Ofna Multi Starter Box. Part number 10246. It will be here Wednesday. :w00t: It says it comes with all the necessary hardware to accept two 7.2V stick pack batteries internally. It also includes additional hardware to use external 12V battery source.

You can use it internally with no problem. It includes the wiring to do so. The only bitch is going to be putting the doughnut where it belongs. Thats one area OFNA completely sucks....Their instructions. Granted, its not a monumental task, BUT, its not easy either. Some tips on making it easier would have been good.

The gel cell mounts up beautifully!

Well when it arrives Wednesday if I have any questions I will be sure to ask. :)

christian - i agree regarding the ofna instructions - i have the ofna multibox, and had to change the doughnut to fit my NTC3, what a bear! and no instructions virtually.

OK. Now you peaked my intrested about this doughnut. Is this the part that makes contact to the flywheel to start the car? Do you think you could post a pic so I could see what you are talking about? Thanks.

i dont have a pic, but yes - u are 100% correct. the doughnut is what is used to spin the flywheel, it is a big rubber thing that is attached to the motor. in order to switch it to a different position, u have to take everything apart, and well, its just a big deal. u will see, lol. still a great box though.

The starter box arrived today. All I can say is WOW. I was so suprised to find out how small it is. I was expecting something much larger. I have no idea why. After waiting a half an hour for the 7.2 batteries to charge I plugged everything in and flipped the switch and nothing. After looking at the underside for two minutes and how the wires were setup I relized that I had to push down on the black bar to get the doughnut to spin. LOL. I noticed that I have to move the doughnut to the spot closer to the bar in order for it to work. Now I see what you guys were talking about. I can't wait to the starter box out this weekend.

It is worth the investment of a gell cell or sticking to the two 7.2 batteries fine?

Good bye pull starters, helllllooooooo starter box. :)

HOLY COW! You guys sure weren't joking about Ofna's directions. I would have been better off without the damn things. I managed to get the doughnut moved and everything back together. Of course I wasn't able to do this without drawing blood. I scrapped the knucked of my middle index finger when I was screwing in the pully assembly. I guess those edges where the doughnuts go thru are kinda sharp.

I did have one problem after it was put back together. The doughnut was going counter clockwise. Giving the PS a quick pull on the NTC3 the flywheel rotates clockwise. After realizing the motor was flipped around I realized that I had the postive mixed up and switched it around. Now the doughnut is going in the correct direction. :) Well my finger is throbbing from all of the typing so I am gonna take a break.

Lol! Get the 12v gel cell. Trust me.

Congrats on the box! BTW, my flywheels all spin counter clockwise when running. Is that bad?

Ooopp...I think I had the engine facing the wrong way from me. If I have the clutchbell towards me the flywheel goes counter clockwise. Now they are both going in the same direction. :) Thanks for clearing that up.
