Break in Finally!!

Finally got around to doing a break-in on my savage.
Anyway I was idling the first tank through and after about 15 min the temp climbed up to about 240. So I shut it down and let it cool. I did this about 4 more times then I remembered I purchased a box of mini fan’s a wile back. So I wired one up to an old switch and a diode then connected it to the charge lead. It kept the temp to around 175 to 205. One more tank to go and I can beat the truck mercifully.

I did that, but I dammnear have rawfuel comming out of the pipe as it is.
I used to have this stupid little jig with a prop on it for breaking in engine's. but I sold it on Ebay.

During break in you will get raw fuel out the pipe..
just richen it up...And keep the temps around 220 to 230...Ditch the fan..Your doing more harm then good..IMO

How is it harming it? Its actually an awesome setup...very creative. No one likes new things...hmmm.

Kid I never said it was not a neet setup!
And Iam all for new things...

Harming it the fan will in deed cool the head..But will give false readings with the temp gun...

Meaning the internals will be hotter then gun is reading..
At break in you need that extra fuel/oil there to properly break in the mill.

The other down side to the fan is that it will probably end up getting crushed into the fuel tank on the first or second major top down landing.

It is a creative set up with the right idea. But the real area that needs the cooling is not the cooling head...it is the body of the engine.

Nice set-up and nice idea...but I'd recommend removing it.

Also, need to get that engine a bit hotter for a solid break in. Lean 'er out a bit. Just as has been previously said.

The fan is just for break in. It is only placed on there for the idle tanks. The only reson I did that was because I'm doing this off my back porch and there is absolutly no airflow there. Also i remove the fan before checking temp at the glowplug.

Just realize that the engine needs to get hot to break in. While no airflow might be a bit of a concern, a properly broken in engine is a bigger one. Also, if you are more than a tank or so into the break in, you can probably run it in circles in your drive way or street to get air moving over the head.

I'm curious as to what you thought the diode's purpose was in your fan circuit.

Ah! No one has mentioned that Savage's naturally lean themselves out at half tank because the pressure drops. It spiking to 240 after 15 minutes is not surprising, just richen it up or you can put a longer piece of fuel tubing from the muffler to the pressure nipple on the tank to maintain higher pressure at half tank.

Damnit...you're right. I hate you. LOL
