Well.. I decided, that I needed more on road/ light off road speed than the Revo has. I am going to mod the Revo a little, but dont want to go beyond a header and tuned pipe. And.. I dont see that doing a lot..

SO, bought a Jato today. I put it through a good 5tank break in. and.. then nailed its a** a few times on the 6th tank.

At first, it just didnt seem to be as much as I thought it would be. Maybe, its bad out of tune. As it got later and colder, peformance got worse.. now, she wont even shift into 2nd gear. Just not eneough power to push it high eneough to shift it. Something has got to be wrong. The engine temp is only running in the high 100 range (175-185). Could this be it?? My Revo (which to my understanding has the same engine), runs mid-high 200's. Just to be sure.. which leans the HSN? Counter Clockwise right? My guess is, its very rich.

How should the Jato compare to the Revo? Like I said above, I thought they had the same engine, so I would think.. that the Jato should smoke the Revo on pavement at least.

Thanks in advance for any input

CCW will take a screw out,so that lets more fuel in. Go CW to lean it. Yes they have the same mill(98%), so performance should be a BIT better on the top end with the Jato, but nailing the trigger with each, the Revo has power to all 4 wheels, the Jato will spin the rears. (depending on slipper set-up)

Yes the 2.5's like to be run mid to high 200s.

It' just not tuned all the way. Needs to be leaner. (I can't believe I am promoting more lean) If after break in it makes good piep smoke but isi not shifting, lean it bit onthe HSN until smoke trail gets lighter but it gets faster and shfts. Do the HSN needle in 1/16 to 18th increments.

you'll know when you get it! that thing runs like a scalded hog. lean that puppy out like RR says. just remember "a little dab'll do ya!"

Thanks for the input.. I will do some tuning on her tomorow and report back. :-)

I can't help but wonder.. do these things really run what the boxes say they do? The Jato box claims 55+ mph. Seems awful fast.

It also seems to idle very high, I have it tuned down some with the throttle trim. Should I adjust the idle screw now? or.. let it go until she is running better and fully broke in?

i know i've seen em outrun 1/8 scale buggies on the straightaway. that's pretty freakin fast. as far as the idle screw, i would suggest adjusting it now. most of my r/c's will idle higher as they break in. the best way to do it is just hold the brake so the carb is shut as far as it can go and slowly turn the screw CW for higher idle and CCW for lower idle. when you get it balanced just right between a steady idle and not taking off, adjust your throttle trim. you may have to adjust linkage, but probably not. good luck!

okay... properly tuned in Jato = FRIGGIN STUPID. I just smoked the rear tires totaly away in a single tank of fuel. It spins horribly!

Its odd.. My revo, was tuned pretty well in when I got it. I gave it a tad to the lean side, but not much at all.. and the idle was fine. The Jato was real rich, I had to go almost a half turn on the HSN. Its running about 275, and throwing a nice steady stream of smoke. Although, I gave it a slight turn to the rich side just to be safe after runing for a few mins.

Thanks for the input everyone..

Didn't you have a Smartech and couldn't get it running? Good thing you got a brand name! That thing was a POS!

Yes, I had the smartech.. and never did get the stupid thing running good; until I bought my Revo and did some tuning work on it. From that I started to understand how the carb and engines work. Then I got the Smartech tuned in good... but its not half the car either of my Traxxas machines are. It does however fire and run reliably now.

Well, that is all good news.

So, what you are trying to say, is that you went back out with the Jato and tuned it a bit and now it screams?!? Good. A few more tweaks in the daylight and you might find even more power in that 2.5r. I have heard that the power is so ridiculous that the back tires get worn quickly, so it sounds like you are about there.

Oh yea.. it was horribly rich!

I have yet to mess with the LSN on either Traxxas car.. is there a need? and.. yes, it has so much power.. being 2wd and light that it will spin in place on dry blacktop. The rear tires, are like slicks at this point. But, yes.. I am highly happy with it now.

I still like the Revo, but the Jato is more what I was looking for from the begining.

well then, you just pack up that there revo and send it on down to dayton, TX and i'll make sure you are never troubled with it again. ;)

No need to mess with the LSN if you are getting good power in all throttle ranges and like the power you are getting now. It should only loosen up more and make more power.

The bigger the engine the longer it seems to take to get to this stage. Todd learned that!

I have the idle set pretty well now.. she just sits and purs.

Tomorow.. in the day light, I'm going to take it to the fair grounds and open its a** up!

The hard way unfortunatly(and 7 pages later)...and then I get it so well tuned that I rip up half the fricken car when it runs away with no batteries!

I wish I could run. JC, send that Smartech down here for me to tear up until I get my other car running!
