Hey Guys,

I never thought I would see the day. My wife and I have been talking about getting one since the week of our wedding, when the house we rented in Nags Head had one. We have been working on getting a deck put on the house and were wanting to incorporate a hot tub into it. Well we never thought we would be able to afford a tub that would suit our needs, and just didn't want to buy a hot tub for the sake of buying a hot tub. Well.... today we went looking at them just to get an idea about size options and price. Never did I think for a minute that we would find something we liked, and could afford. Well I was wrong. In about 4 to 6 weeks we will be having a hot tub delivered to the house. After reading the broshure and asking lots of questions, we put to bed alot of misnomers that go along with hot tubs. We new the tub would be an extra electrical cost.. but I didn't know it would be as low as it is. Now when the tub is in use it will use a bit of electricity, but when it is not in service the circualting pump uses less energy than a standard light bulb. Also the care and maintainence costs are lower than expected as well. Also I never dreamed we could touch a tub for under 10K and we were able to get everything we wanted and are still under that price. We decided to go with the Jacuzzi brand... figured they have been around a while and they are made in CA and you guys in CA know your hot tubs! LOL

Well I just thought I would share. I can't believe we just bought one... probably regret it tomorrow... but when the tub gets here... I will be ok. LOL Now just got to get a concrete pad poured and an electrician to run the wires.

Just thought I would share. Take care guys.

Thats a great way to start the summer, congrats on the tub man!

Thanks guys. The wife and I have been saving for a bit for this so I hope we get the enjoyment out of it we hope to. We still have not found out what is wrong with my wife and we have an appointment to see a Rumotologist next week. She has problems with fatigue and stiff/sore muscles and joints. We are hoping the tub will help with that. I am excited. Even at under 10K it was still alot of cash so we better use it! LOL

Hot tubs are the best thing that ever happened to water. We use ours almost every day. We shut it down 3 months of the year but use the hell out of it the other 9 months. I like to jump in in the morning and drink my coffee. Great way to start the day.

Dont listen to what they tell you about the cost to run. Its always more. E have a Colman Brand 220v unit that is super efficient. When we got it they said it used as much as a light bulb when its recirculating as well. What they didnt tell us that the cost to heat it while its circulating is MUCH more. Trust me when I tell you you want to keep a hot tub hot LOL. We have a 4 person with all the bells and whistles and it costs from 100-125.00 a month not including the chemicals.

Enjoy it and have fun. You will not regret the extra expense.

you will love it!...the wife & i had one in cali & we used it nearly every day, we made all our important desicions in that tub. a wine cooler & some relaxation goes a long way

Wow, that is a bit more than I expected. I was thinking about $1.50 a day give or take. I didn't think it would be that expensive. It is what it is though. What temp do you keep your tub at when you are not using it? I was told to turn it down on low when you are not using it. How come you shut your tub down for 3 months?

I hope we are able to use it as much as possible. The week we rented the house, we were in the tub every day and all night it seemed! LOL Thanks for the info my friend.

I imagine alot of things will be descussed while soaking it up I am sure. If not, I will invent some! LOL

My wife doesn't like to use it in Jan-Feb-Mar. She says its to cold out for her. I dont agree but shes the boss. I also think its because those are the 3 coldest months and she doesn't want to pay the additional to keep it heated.

We keep ours at 101-103. Seeing as how we use it every day we found it was cheaper to keep it hot rather then have to go out and warm it up an hour ahead of time. It has an economy mode that seems to work well for us. It filters and cycles every 2 hours to keep it to temp and lets it fall to whatever in those two hours its not cycling. It saves about 20% over keeping it to temp all the time or having it run for an hour to get up to temp.

Did you get one with an ozonator (sp)? It sure helps on chemical costs and keeps it a lot cleaner then just chemicals. Ill also suggest the best cover you can get as well as a cover helper. The good covers are heavy.

Ill be setting ours back up in the next day or so WOOT!!!!
BTW I have naked pics of WoodiE in my tub :D
I even BBQd his shorts while he was in no respectable position to stop me.

LOL! Did you have to get a new tub after that!LOL

We did get the ozonator. It was part of the price. Evidently it is part of the "package" this particular retailer. We also have a "hot tub" class we are suppose to attend here in the next month. We bought the heavy cover with the cover mate, so that we can open it with just one hand. I was really pleased with our salesman... he didn't try to sell us anything and was up front with everything. In fact the first thing he told us about every tub we looked at was the Price and on the higher end tubs even told us what was not worth the money. We ended up with a 4 to 6 person tub, only becuase our families live so close I know we would be entertaining more. I am a bit nervous at the extra costs involved, but hey with everything comes with a price, and I am with you... soaking in that tub after a long day.... I am sure is worth its weight in gold. Thanks for the info my friend, it helps to talk about this with someone who already owns one. We are in the process now of laying out the foundation for the concrete pad. We are going to put an arbor over top of ours to help shade the tub, but I am a little worried aobut the birds! LOL It makes perfect sense to leave it hotter rather than have it heat up every time you want to use it. I am a bit worried about the winter costs, cuz I know as soon as it starts to snow... I will be in that tub!

Relaxation is something that is worth every penny you spend on it. You work hard and need to have something to remind you why.

One of my buddies got a tub a while back. hes the kind of guy that really doesn't do a lot of upkeep on things. He didn't properly maintain the chemicals the way he needed to. One day he calls me up and tells me that he used the tub the night before with some gal he just met. I got to hear all the details then he pops the big one. He goes on to tell me he think she gave him the crabs and was wondering if he needed to shock the tub to get rid of them. LMFAO.... As the story goes. He gets a call from this gal a few days later telling him she thinks she got the crabs for him. LMFAO again. The truth as it comes out is that the water had some kind of fungus from not being properly taken care of.

Now when asked about how he met his wife, they both chuckle, point at each other and say He / she gave me the crabs.

LMAO! That is hilarious man.

Like you said though... taking proper care of it is the key. It is the same as anything else.... take care of it and it will last longer. How often do you change the water in yours? I read they recomend at least twice a year. I was just curious. I have also read that they have other options for chemicals other than chlorine. Do you use something different, or have any recomendations? Thanks my friend.

We change the water between 3 and 4 times per year, our older one only gets expensive with filters and chemicals. It's one of the best investments you can make and it's a immune system booster in the cold wintermonths.
Ours has god knows how many functions and if you crank it up it makes you feel like a LOBSTAH! LOL I tend to fall asleep in that thing. I try to keep the chemicals to a minimum, thats why I go after the water more often.
Congratulations Tom!

We change it out 2 times a year. One time every 4 months and its shut down for a few months so if it was going all the time 3 times a year. I'm freaky about the chemicals and also shower before we get in. Its the body lotion and makeup that will trash everything.

We use a bromine (sp) setup. Chlorine leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It gets into your skin and I can taste it in my mouth. Dries out my wife's skin as well. Its good to get one "Set" of chemicals and stick with them. We like to use a floater as well. The most difficult part for me is the PH. Once you get it just right, and this can take some time, they make a PH lock. dump it in and it stabilizes the PH. I only found out about it last year and it cut my maintenance time down by 75%.

Instead of cleaning the filter once a year, I just replace it. The spa place wants 75.00 for one but there is a place I get them online for 30.00 or so. I forget the place but google gets me there.

101 seems to be our preferred temp. Trust me when I tell you there is a big difference from 101-104. It doesn't seem like a lot but for us its the difference between staying in for 10 minutes or as long as we want. Play around with it and see whats best for you.

I dont know about your city but we had to get a permit. The placement of the tub had to allow for emergency people to have access to all 4 sides of the tub in the event of an emergency. We also had to have a 6 foot fence all the way around the yard with locking gates. Then there is the electrical 220 outlets. The had to be inspected. Needed to be out of splashing distance and be ground fault protected. The electric cable needed to be SO quality whatever that means. I sure hope they included delivery on your unit. Ours wasn't to bad. The removed a section if the fence and moved it from the church parking lot behind my house. The guy down the block had to get a crane to lift it over his 2 story house.

Dont forget the mandatory Rubber Duck and get some plastic pool cups with wide bottoms so you dont spill your beverage. A little privacy is nice. You never know when WoodiE will be propping by. Hide the Rubber duck. Mine hasn't been the same. Lord knows what he did to it.

My dad got a hot tub a few months ago, not sure exactly how much more it costs per month for electricity though. I can ask to give you an idea. The thing is great. The winter months IMO are the best months to have it. I've gone out in that tub when it was below 0 before.

Nice touch....this is one of those things on my list.....perhaps when I get back from Alaska........(yes are cruising there this summer)

godale I think your wife to preping you for the baby making sessions..;) or prodding you...not sure which from here..

sounds like FUN!!!

Hot tubs are great but some of the costs I'm seeing posted here seem high to me. $125 ( Eddy) for the Electricity bill hell where do you live in Fargo North Dakota? Ours is only about $25 to $28 a month. We bought a tub from Hot Springs and have had no troubles in the three years.

All I can say is look at every tub out there and pick the one that's best for where you live, and use it as much as you can. Also no swim suits in the tub the wash soap's mess with the water and filters.
