I leave my personal phone with a friend of mine who works in the office because the battery on it only lasts about 2 hours unplugged.

Today my assistant manager was snooping through it and the friend caught her. I'm extremely pissed about the situation because I'm pretty sure its illegal. I could understand if it was my work phone but it wasn't.

The asst manager has always been nosey but i can't believe she did that.

What would you do? I, like everyone else needs my job so I'm wondering if i should even bring it up to the manager.

Yes for sure Id take it directly to whose in charge.

Dude, I don't even like my girlfriend going through my phone. I would probably go above her head and say something

yep ..totally agree with all of the above ;) ...go see the big boss ..she is not supposed to touch your personal stuff ....well it depends what stuff it is and if shes cute ..lol

It all depends on the business and what sort of paperwork you signed. Regardless she had to right to touch it, but id approach this to your boss as an infraction on your privacy and not breaking rules and laws. Just a quick tidbit, technically speaking, anything you plug into a DoD information system instantly becomes govt property along with all data on it. If this was enforced imagine how many cell phones and hard drives the govt would own.

i agree with Chief...be careful how you approach this. If you signed a non-disclosure agreements for work or any sort intellectual agreement your work can and will search your personal belongings. I work for a major pharm company and use my own BB for work. Since I signed the ND/IP agreement security can and has scanned my phone for any pictures of downloads.

if you did not sign anything like this then I would approach your HR director first. Be sure to have the proof with you that she actually was looking at the content and not the phone itself. this will make the HR persons job easier and thus more willing to work with you and not against you.

hope this helps

As far as i know i didnt sign anything like that. I will ask for sure. We have work phones which i probably did sign for that one. The problem is i can't prove it but i know she was trying to see some text messages because when my friend walked up she said she damn near threw my phone across the room.

To make matters worse last night i lost my other phone which my emails and stuff go to. I realized how much info can be had because of saved passwords so your phone can download emails and such and it made me even madder. I did realize where i had left this morning but it was a real eye opener

Time to be proactive. Android offers a variety of apps that allow tracking/location id your phone via brower or another phone and even remote wiping of all data even SD card in some cases.

IOS, BB, And android all have security measures, some more powerful then others. Start with password protecting your phone, its a measure nearly all phones have built in nowadays.

For email, I recommend setting up a secondary email account that the phone is set up with and set your primary to auto forward to it. Phone gets yanked you can turn off the auto forward instantly. Also keep all emails deleted from that account, you can always retrieve them from the main account if you need to look at them again. Mobile security is every bit as important as PC security, and even more so as people use their phone for more and more. A couple bucks for a quality app is an absurdly obviously good investment if you dont like any of the quality free ones out there.

Also delete texts on a regular basis. Txting a friend asking for a ride because you had too much to drink at the bar usually comes in the form of "I'm so f%&*ing drunk, need a ride so wake up you *@&$# *#$*%(%# and come get me" and wont look good when someone reads then forwards it to your coworkers.

The best way to keep your boss away from your private life communications is to leave the cellphone outside the workplace. When I worked for Dell, all of the entrances had a sign stating that anything brought into the building was subject to search. This of course included cellphones, thumb drives and the like. And yes they did inspect things from time to time.

Worst thing I have to deal with is drug testing.. which isnt an issue for me. They only do it when someone is caught stoned or smells like pot.. seems like that's all they even care about to. I guess crack is ok.

Just don't eat poppy seed bagels the day of your test.

Or smoke crack....

No but seriously... Put a lock on you phone. i dont know what kind of phone you have but most smartphones you can put a pin lock on it before you can even access the phone.

Yeah well crack is illegal, and bad for ya. Poppy seeds are just annoying, and will give a false positive for opiates.

.....And they probably don't get you high either.

If I were you I'd lay in wait. If she has half a concience she'll be wondering if and/or when she's gonna hear about it.

Set the bitch up so you can get proof that she's snooping, or at least wait to catch her again.

In the meantime maybe ask some other people if she's been snooping through their stuff.
