Hey everybody, just a quick question, i realised that my CB is as a blue tint to it, I'm guessing that the shoes slips and heats up real bad the CB. Is there som' i can do to prevent this, or is it normal? NOTE: i have Robinson steel spur and heavy duty CB, and i ran with some goliath tires before i realise the blue tint to the CB. :help:

What type of clutch? Apparently, you're not getting enough grip in there. Maybe you're geared to short and the energy isn't being transmitted through the drivetrain, instead the clutch is slipping upon acceleration?

I've heard only good things about the stock shoes. You might want to pull the CB and scuff up the inside of the bell, and the outside of the shoes. They might be glazed, and that will cause them to slip more, generating the extra heat.
I can understand your concern with the blue tint on the clutch bell since it would really clash with the purple alloy on the rest of your truck.

The stock Savage clutch shoes are decent, the springs are too weak IMO. Scuff up the shoes and CB like Rolex said. Try a set of 0.9mm clutch springs with them and see if it helps. Those Goliath tires are not helping either, HEAVY. What CB/Spur ratio do you have? The Dynamite max life clutch shoes hold up very well with little slip. If you feel the need to upgrade shoes, try those.
You will need to shim the clutch nut out from the flywheel to get the clutch springs lined up with the clutchnut. Ofna makes a nice kit with all the shims you need.
Temp your clutch next time you run the truck. under 150F is ideal. Around 180F is when the clutch starts to destroy itself along with the bearings.

I've never heard these numbers before. I'm gonna have to check that out on my vehicles.

Owning a Muggy taught me a lot about clutches.
For those who are not aware of the Muggy's reputation, it is overgeared with heavy tires. It loves to fry clutches.

I understand ur concern but...it was on my other savage (ss) so nohting matches anyway, but thanks!!

Maybe you're geared to short

Too short or too tall? I would have thought to tall (too high of gearing for conditions/setup).

Sounds like Scrogg has a lot of good info for you. I know the woes of muggy clutches as a buddy of mine has one. If you plan on bashing an entire day with one of those, you have to have a spare set of bearings and shoes on hand just to make it through the day!

Keep in mind though, the stock shoes aren't bad. Running heavier springs would make it more likely to slip IMO due to not allowing the clutch to engage as hard.

I run the HPI teflon shoes/springs on my aftershock with an LRP 28, my XB buggy with an XTM 24.7 and both my buddies run them now in their LST2's (after seeing how mine performed).

With that in mind, I'd just first take off the bell, rough it up with sand paper and do the same to the surface of the shoes. This maintenance needs done at least once a gallon if not more frequently to keep a solid clutch of any type in good working order. Also pay close attention to the bearings. If it's getting hot enough to blue the metal bell, your bearings are getting cooked and may be at the very least, dry.

LMAO! I saw something purple, but it just didn't look right. I didn't know you had 2.
Maybe that's what I should do. I guess that's the secret to keeping it clean, while still driving one.
