It's too bad the canopy of this E-flite Blade has so little integrity.
At just under $13 a piece, it could get very expensive to replace...

Haha. I remember doing this with my msr.(which I have to my 12 YO cousin yesterday.)

I know on the canopies. 12 bucks for the nano canopy I need. I finally punched a hole in the BL's yesterday.

Also, if you line the inside of the small canopies (the whole thing, then poke holes for the mount posts) with packing tape when they're new, they'll last a long long time.

Yeah, thanks that's a smart idea, and preventive medicine. Been told that before. But as you know, a new canopy is such a thing of beauty... hahaha

I'd like to dilute some plasti-dip and paint it in there.
As the has such a narrow body to work sticky tape into the skinny nose...

Any vids of your quads in action? Love to see them...

Yeah, the tape method does work, but Only if it's applied,
"before" the fatal crash... Smile

Trying to repair a broken and crumbed canopy is nearly impossible and a waste of time. But if you can, have a couple spares standing by.

I'm still going to try coating one on the inner walls, with something...
Likely some well diluted Plasti-Dip. Even liquid electrical tape might benefit.

I still feel, having a handy 3d printer, could & would be the answer to the contant purchase of spares, dilemma. Not yet cost effective, for most of us.

@ChasCS - the isssue with coatings on these micro helis is the weight that it adds, and subsequent effects on CG. The packing tape weighs next to nothings, and works great. By all means, try it if you want though, I'm all about some DIY.

Also, no quad flying lately as they're both down for rebuilds. The FPV quad is getting new LRS radio gear, an Openpilot CC3D flight controller (replacing the DJI NAZA), 2.4Ghz video gear, and an OSD (on screen display) system. I'm also setting up a portable backpack ground station, so I can hike n fly here in the mountains. All of which will enable me to push out farther on my flights.

The sport quad is down with a busted prop / possible motor bearing damage from a flip to inverted onto dirt.

Hike 'n fly? How about super Moto 'n fly? Get a nano and it can ride on the handle bars. I would suggest the nano to anyone wanting to learn to 3d. It's perfect. Especially if you consider that I've only been flipping for 8 days, hovering inverted for 7 days, and the video I posted a few days ago doesn't compare to what I do now, and I do it with the BL(flipped it for the 1st time Friday.)

I flipped my 450 a couple times but the gyro gain was low. I have the gain 94% on that 450 right now to keep the tail steady!

Seeing this vid makes me not want to even try a cp heli. My MSR is a handful for me and is so affected by wind that I really only fly it around in the house.

I wouldn't mind finding a FP micro without a flybar though.

Yeah, but the nano can't carry the GoPro and FPV gear though! I could fit all my FPV stuff and quad on the rack on supermoto, but it never fails that when I venture out far on the bike, it rains on me. That would make for a bad day with all that gear on the rack getting wet. I really dig the nano, but I have the 130x and have room to fly it at home, so it's hard for me to justify another heli. Like I need to justify another toy

You're doing great on your flying man, these modern crash, fly n repeat CP helis are fantastic, and the only way I learned aerobatics without serious bank account damage. The tail is always the hardest thing to get right on a heli, took me forever on the T Rex.

Dood, post a vid of your aerobatics. I want to see how you're doing. I think the whole nano underpowered thing actually makes it better. You learn I manage your collective a lot better. I don't big it like I used to.

I'll try and get some footage at some point, but I usually fly alone so I can't track the heli. I don't have any bag of tricks though to be honest, inverted hovers both nose and tail in, flips, rolls and loops and that's it. I'll never be a 3D guy because I just don't fly enough, but my helis usually come home in one piece though so that's a fair tradeoff IMO.

As high as you can see. Then comes the parts where you play chicken with the ground. I prefer pavement. How low can you go? Pretty much stops on a dime anyway.....hopefully.

I just reinforced around the canopy grommets and some small cracks and weakening points on the canopy with a thin layer of hot glue. I just dropped some money on parts for all 3 of my heli's last night and I don't need to have to buy another canopy any time spine.

Yeah, that might help save it from total desrtuction for awhile, a few more flights. I guess building them with more strength would partially defeat the hobby industry, the purpose of repeat sales.
I don't mind the LHS making profit from spare parts and upgade components.
But these canopy's for micro helicopters are way over priced considering the cheap thin materials used.
At least the has a relatively thick canopy material.
As do the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 with much better construction methods...

Anyway, they are all plenty of fun to fly, and help give a beginner like myself awesome alternative methods learning how to fly, aside from RF 6.5 and crashing lots.

After mounting, the canopy feels much more rigid without it being so flimsy right around the mount points. I did it inside and out. This also means the grommets are glued to the canopy.

Are you doing this to your 450? I had thought it was a micro canopy...

Oh that's something to consider, but do you want it to be riding that snugg?
With very little give, or room for expandtion.
