anybody know if I can get a smaller clutch bell or bigger spur for the lightning????

if u want - just shave the clutch shoes a bit, that will make the engine rev higher before moving the car, and give u more punch off the line.

Now you're seeing why people don't like that engine. The people that own the savage have the same complaints about that engine.

You could try moving the tuned pipe closer to the header. I don't know where they put it stock, but closer will give a little bit more bottom end.

I honestly don't know jack gearing yet.

I have a hyper .21 8-port race in my Lightning Pro. Aside from the carb being a little touchy, I have no complaints. It was also a fairly cheap at $165.

A regular .21 engine clutchbell will work. As for the center diff spur you can also mount almost any 1/8 scale gear on there. GS, and K make good gears.

does kimbrough make 1/8th buggy gears? if so - i have used them on my TC and they are just amazing!!!

They make gears for Losi's AE's Traxxas and Tamiya but no 1/8 scale buggy gears to date.

i put a 16tcb on mine with my 4 gallon old 21bb engine.. i have no issues with bottom end.. it flys.. but i will admit, it did take a few tanks of fuel for the clutch shoes to not slip off the line.. now it is unreal..

thanks all... I actually had more adjustment left in my lsn, helped a good bit.. Amazing how much difference there is between engines.. My son and I took the Storm RTR and the Lightning to the track yesterday.. and the Storm is an absolute demon.. nobody and I am not just talking sh... nobody could touch me with that storm... there was even a guy there from the Hobby Town that I bought it from, he had never seen the storm run.. and came over and ask me what all I had done to it.. I told him I had just broke it in.. all stock.. he was really surprised.. I had asked about a 12 tooth clutch bell.. and the guy at the shop looked at me kinda funny? is there something wrong with a 12 tooth? thanks again everybody for the help... Peace!!

one more thing.. would a 3 shoe clutch make that much difference? and what about shoe springs? do you buy tighter springs or do you adjust the spring you have? sorry I'm so in the dark.. one of these days I'm gonna be answering questions around here... :)

I've been trying to tell everybody its probably the sweetest RTR but everyone thinks I just trump it up cuz I own 2. I guess everyone has to form their own opinion.

has your son broken anything on the storm yet? The lightning rr, I'm sure has broken something by now. I have had to replace exactly 0 parts on my Lightning Pro. I've been taking jumps off a bike ramp like a madman too.

CRSMP5, can you explain the clutch bell thing to me a little? more teeth = more bottom end, but less top speed? I'm thinking about gearing the 8-port but I'm clueless.

It is the RR, and thats more or less my son's ride.. I kinda took the Storm for myself.. :) Nice to be boss... anyway.. nope we've been to the track twice with it and no broken parts on either yet.. and i might also add that he could care less what it cost to fix, so he drives it like a freak'n mad dog.. i've seen some bad smashes with both and am always relieved to find all in good shape.. I used to race go karts and I know that the smaller the bell the more low end.. or we usually changed gears on the axle and that was more teeth on the axle meant more low end less top end.. so I'm guessing the same is true here even without the chain I'm assuming the concept is the same.. peace...

I'm saying with teh 16t cb, i did not notice any drop on low end.. and it ups the top end speed in big ways.. i need to get a 17t and 18t cb still.. i can swap them between savage and buggy.. :cheerful:

What about low end? If I want more get up and go, I'm looking for fewer teeth on the bell?

humboldt, this is from another thread:

I pay attention. :D I'm not giving any props to the stock engine that comes in the Lightning. Like I said in another thread, it's kinda like a freebie.
