I run an Orion Vortex 2,000 KV with a Hobbywing SC8WP ESC in my Prolite. On 3S, it runs 130*-145* with no cool downs allowed. The stock motor was a 3,500 KV 550 can with a 14T pinion to the 47T spur; with the 1/8 motor, a 20T pinion was the minimum to gain clearance for the can, which puts the calculated wheel RPM per volt a little lower. But that 550 motor was getting up into the 170*, 180* range if I ran it non-stop, where the 1/8 electronics don't have to work nearly as hard.
I haven't radar checked it yet, but I estimate top speed on 3S to be 40-45 MPH. It's a 4S capable system, but I have not run 4S as of yet. I'm bettin' it'll really start breaking parts if I do that.
Truck gained about 6 ounces, but still handles well.
In short, if you want to run your truck hard on 3S and not worry about cooking things, I'd shoehorn 1/8 electronics into it.
I would like to do 1/8 but i would have to buy more stuff. What does everyone think of the sv3 castle3800kv or 4600 kv. What one is better for slash 4x4?
You're buying a new combo anyway, what else would you need? Most 1/8 motors have tapped holes that align with 540/550 mounts.
My Prolite required only some clearancing of plastic and the larger pinion gear to install the larger motor & ESC; it bolted right up to the stock mount.
