Battery help!

Hi everybody I have a stupid question for everybody.Well I'm treading where I haven't treaded in sometime My wife got a E SAVAGE and it has the 2200 NICd batterys well they suck!!! I got her the 5000 NICd venom packs I have a charger that charges them,I worried do I need to discharge them all the way or do I stop when the truck slows down to very slow crawl?I'm used to back in the old days 1988-1993:whhooo: you had to dicharge the batteries all the way that how long its been since I had a electric,I'm nitro all the way I think I have it running in my blood.Any way all the help will be greatful.

Well if I had to guess those 5000 packs are nimh not nicd cells, in which case you do not have to discharge them all the way, nimh cells are designed not to build up a memory like nicd cells, how ever I would recommend discharging them from time to time but not below 0.9 volts per cell or 5.4 volts for a 6 cell pack, below that you run the risk of damaging the batttery, but basicly running the truck till it is going pretty slow should discharge them enough, just make sure you let the batteries cool down before charging them again.

you can pick up a charger that will discharge them before charging them. The novak ionic D is a great one.

Duratrax ice as well, but as stated nimh cells are good about not holding memory. I just run my rigs that use them untill they dont move anymore, then charge them up.
