I have a Duratrash (I mean Duratrax) Intellipeak Mini Pulse Charger. I usually charge my NIMH batteries at 3 amps. Today I charged at 4200 NIMH pack, the charger first discharged the battery, then peak charged it. It was not switching to slow charge (when I usually remove the pack) and finally after like 40 mins it switched to slow charge, as I was removing the charger the battery made a loud bursting sound, luckily no fire or anything but I was shocked. One of my ears has a small buzzing noise still. What went wrong? Isnt the charger supposed to detect this? The charger still works fine.

I have a trickle charger, also want to charge a 12v starter box battery, someone please tell me how long I should keep this charged, dont want to have a repeat incident.

It's possible the 4200 was too much battery for the Duratrax. The manual should say whether or not that was the case.

Yeah, some of the "older" chargers that have been on the market for a while wont be able to handle the new packs. The largest pack that was around when a lot of charges came out was 2400!! Batteries have come a long wayin a short time.

Wish I could help ya on the 12v, I am not sure myself. I have left it overnight with no problems.

Isnt there a charger that you plug in the pack, it handles everything from detecting what it is, to telling you "done" and turns off? I like the Brain charger but I read the manual, seems you have to input the charge rate, the type of battery etc, I want an automatic one!
