Hey guys... I just picked up an application for a Dairy Queen (ice cream fast food place) and I am going to fill it out and turn it in probably tomorrow. I was wondering if you could share some tips to help me get the job as far as calling back after my application and wanting an interview or something. Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it.

Don't call them and ask them a million questions. lol.
Good luck with the job.

Dairy Queen is a ice cream fast food place? you don't say.... huh...never knew that....

lol, well some ppl dont get out much or might not have one in their area...

After you apply, call back 2 or 3 days later. If you get an interview, mail a letter thanking them for the interview the same day or next day. Common questions during an interview are: What are your strengths. Weaknesses? I find "flexibility" to be a very good strength (true or not!). I have never really found a good one for weaknesses.

There are No Dairy Queens in NYC that I'm aware of.
My kids have never heard of it.

Just my 2 cents.

Yea dont say the F WOrd. I had a friend from Holland drop the F Bomb during a interview here in the states LOL

ok, but what should I say when I call back 2-3 days after applying?

Just say you are checking on the status of your application and seeing if they have reviewed it yet. it shows them you care about getting a job there.

so call and say, "Hi, I'm Pat ***, and I was checking on the status of my application."

they say "yea what ya want"

and I say "I was wondering if I could set up an interview?"

How does that sound? Anything to change?

is that

during the interview give a firm hand shake....make eye contact....have a few quesitions to ask about the company....stay calm.

yes, never let them see you sweat. also, no clip-on ties! seriously......
good advice runem. firm handshake and eye contact, forgot about that!

Ask them if you can ask a few questions about the company before they say "Do you have any questions?" and have that list handy in a binder of some sort. Write down all their answers and refer back to it (their answers) if needed. OH, and dress up for the interview. At least slacks, shirt and tie.

Look clean, smell clean and don't over do the cologne. Get a haircut before then if needed. Cut your nails and clen them ... especially if you were out running the r/c's the day before!

Funny you should ask this question (I Had a recent experience with this)

For the kind of job you are going for you will need to shine over the competition. They will be looking for a Bright, well spoken person that not only will be able to learn and follow directions but will also be able to think for them self and stay within the set guidelines of the job.

The only way you have to show them this in the short time is to be clean, well spoken, good hand writing, and to have an air of confidence.

When asked a question that deserves a yes or no answer, answer with a yes or no. When asked for details on something keep it short and to the point, don't wander. When asking them a question make sure its open ended, short and to the point.

DO NOT....
Ask about brakes, vacations, pay raises, or anything not directly related to the job tasks.

Good luck on applying for your first job. Believe it or not, at this point selling yourself is more important then the job itself. If you can't sell you, the job isn't going to happen.

as a employer myself, a BIG thing I always look at is peoples apperance. I know that thats not what a person who get hired or not about, but its my buisness so Ill do it as I want!! ..lol.. Anyway, make sure your dressed nice, dont wear a hat, comb your hair, give firm handshakes, eye contact (them last two are two of the most importants) and just try to be a salesman and sell yourself. Dont talk about the negatives, or bring up bad stuff (I had a dude tell me he was just released fromt he hospital the same day in a drug treatment program. Granted thats great hes out, but not something to tell a potential employer). But yeah, after like 3 or 4 days, give them a call and ask them if they had a chance to look at your app yet. Most likely if they have, they will either tell you they havnt gotten to look at them all yet (If there going to pass on you) or will say yeah, and tell yeah they been meaning to call you about a Interview. I personally wouldnt ASK for a interview, but if ya feel its right, go for it. Anyway good luck and keep us posted. (Btw if ya get the job, I want some coupons for chilli doggs and also one of them paper hats!)

I think they wear ball caps now. The paper hats went away after too many heads caught on fire over the grease vats.

dress for successs and be professional. When I interviewed at my current employer I showed up in dress slacks witha shirt and tie. The job was to wash trucks and clean floors. you cannot overdress for a job interview. He actually told me "this is actually pretty informal". But I got the job and I've since took several other positions within the plant. Good luck!
