I have been away from the hobby a bit and was interested in possibly getting a new buggy. I don't really have time to race anymore, so I am leaning more towards just getting something that I can have fun with and let my girlfriend's 10 year old enjoy as well. Anyone know of anything new that is RTR or Almost RTR of which an old racer wont think is too slow? Reliability would be my primary factor at the moment. Something that will start all the time and wont require constant tuning. I have sold a large amount of my RC pit box, so I am trying to eliminate a high maintance item. Thanks.

Dude, i just bought a K2 for $469... not a shabby price to bash around with.

NA, I would suggest looking into the Hyper 7 PBS, or PCR edition's.
They cost about $500 ish.
Also Hotbodies Lightning 2 is a good for a less money RTR. The Hotbodies is a nice buggy. Don't be fooled by the price.
They race them at my local track, and several of the guys run them.

Hey NA if you are looking in to getting one I have another PCR pro that I may sell. PM me. Its complete!

and an Ofna ULTRA lx comp

That PCR interests me, but when I was last involved in this hobby, I remember that the Hyper8 engine wasn't the most reliable and ran a bit hot. This is of concern to me since it is so warm in FL. Am I mistaken about the above comment? I have heard good things about the HB, but none of the area LHS's carry any kinds of parts for it, and I know I will break alot of things as I am a bit rough when bashing.

i have the pcr and have 4.5 gallons through my hyper 8 port with no problems. its still tight and runs well.

I had the Hyper 8 in a Savage that I had about a year and a half ago.
I never had a problem with it after it was tuned correctly, nor did I hear about a heat problem.
I'm not saying the problem does not exist, just not a problem that I had.
NA, whats your budget so I can help put you in an area of what buggy?

people also have good things to say about the xtm xterminator. I've never run it but they make descent engines so I'm assuming thier other products are descent too.

I have also heard good things about the XTM. Looks quite beefy too. I will need to look into that and see if my LHS stocks any parts. Thanks for that recommendation, I completely forgot about that one.

Since I do not plan on racing this buggy, I would like to keep it as low cost as possible and still get a good, reliable vehicle. I don't really have a specific price point, but the 400-600 range seems reasonable for what I want.

On a side note, I still have a full gallon of Odonnel 30% from my past. It's about 6mos old but has been stored indoors. I wonder if it's still any good.

The fuel should be fine if it was stored indoors.
I forgot about XTM as well. I never drove one or in fact never even saw one.

Ratzo - I have yet to see one in person either, but everyone who has had one seems to like it, well, most of them anyways. Plus, I remember seeing a special edition model with some carbon fibre and some super thick shock towers. Does anyone know what that model was called, or where I could see more information about it?

what about the new avenger? and the Mayhem?

I can't help you with XTM products at all.
I know nothing about them.

I have a buddy that has one. Its pretty tuff. Hate the Battery box. the braces are weak but its a buggy that I think will be up in the competition w the right driver.

I haven't heard of either of these.

I think that Sportwerks makes the Mayhem and the Avenger is by GS Racing. HumboldtBlazer did an article on them. as well as the new MBX5 Prospec.

I have the XTM X-Terminator. A very great buggy for a non-racers who is looking for a powerful, durable basher. People have said it can be raced, but other buggies would be better for racing. I got it for $320 on Hobbypeople. It comes fully built, all you have to do is decal it and glue the tires and your ready to go. To me it sounds like the perfect buggy for you, it was for me and I'm not a racer.

Did the GS Avenger ever make it out to the shelves? I haven't seen one yet.
I would recommend an Ofna Hyper 7 as a basher/racer buggy. Tough as nails, & a race contender providing you have the driving skills...

Don't know about the Avenger but I am totally with you on thw H7 but the PCR version is bomb. I have two and hope that I can get rid of one soon. I got it for a deal but now I just want to finish building here and then sell it. NA let me know if you are interested.

It's also been picked up by Horizon to be the distributor. My LHS has one in stock and it looks really nice. I may pick one up myself after I take care of a few other purchases.
