Does anybody think the Patriots are running up the score unecessarially? I mean c'mon did they really need to score two more touchdowns against the skins in the 4th quarter of a 38 to 0 ? I mean the game was won. They went for it on two 4th down plays. The Pats showed no class as far as I am concerned. Now don't get me wrong. I can handle an arse whoopin, that is football, but when Wes Welker spiked the football in the endzone to make it 52-0 showed no class. If I were the Skins I would have made Belicheck and the Pats pay for keeping there starters in the game. I would have blitzed every down hitting Brady every chance I could get. Now don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that anybody take a cheap shot or intentionally try to hurt someone, but I would have made the Pats pay for keeping their starters in the game.

My take? If you can score, score. It's not NE's job to not score. It's the other team's job to keep them from scoring. And so far, no one in the NFL has been able to do that. If you're gonna have your feelings hurt when you lose, take up ping-pong.

I'm sure there's performance based bonus' and such that are paid out that the general public isn't aware of. It's like lockerroom bonus handed out in fights. Unlike fight purses, those things are not reported or for public knowledge. Pats management may have something in place for yardage run/passed, td's scored, etc. you just don't know. BTW, I'm thinking the Colts are going to solve any issues this week!

Class??

It's a game... Kill a leather hide bearing animal, steal it's skin and fill it with air. Make a big rectangle with two end zones and hit each other as hard as you possibly can until someone gets to the end zone with the stolen air filled skin...

I really, honestly have no idea why these people get paid millions of dollars.

Hey Candyman.... now I do not have my feelings hurt... we got it handed to us and that is just the way it is. I don't disagree with you. My point is when it is down to the last couple of minutes in the 4th quarter and it is 4th down, why go for it? You are already up 38 to zip... what else do you have to prove? Why set up and throw the ball deep? Why not just run the football and kill the clock? You already have the win. Just like two weeks ago when they were in Miami and they took out Brady and when the backup turned the ball over... well into the 4th quarter of a game they had wrapped up, just to put Brady back into the game to score another meaningless 4th quarter TD. It is one thing to run the football and score late into the 4th quarter.... at least it would not appear they were trying to run up the score. Instead they setup in a spread formation and went for the endzone. When Wes Welker scored that 4th quarter TD he spiked the football like he just won the superbowl. Instead of just handing the ball to the ref he spiked it in the skins face as if to say "what do you have to say to that?" Like Steve Young said last night before the Packers, Broncos game... what is the point? Playing in the NFL means you are playing at the highest level, if you don't want to get beat... then stop them. I have no problems accepting defeat. Steve also said that in the 4th quarter when the Pats went for it on two seperate 4th downs to score meaningless TD's shows no class. The Patriots are out for blood for whatever reason it appears they are out to humilliate the rest of the NFL... for what? To show that they can win without cheating? I never once thought the Patriots were winning because they were cheating. They are a hell of a franchise. Nobody likes a bully, and it seems as if the Patriots are playing the part. Like Michael Wilbon of the Washington Post said.... leaving the "Golden Boy" out on the field in games like the last couple of weeks is just asking for trouble, because when they play Brady in games like this past week that are all but over, one of these teams getting beat on is going to send the house after Brady and if he gets hurt in a game that is meaningless in the 4th quarter, it serves them right.

I expect nothing less from Belichick - he's never once shown one ounce of class.

With that said, I do agree with Candyman to a point - scoring is the point of the game. With that said I think if the Pats keep doing this sooner or later it's going to catch up with them. Probably the only reason why teams pull their starters after a shutout like that is to protect their starters. The game is wrapped up, you've won so why risk one of your starters getting hurt for any period of time over a game that's been over since the end of the first half?

Same concept applies to pre-season, you won't see teams putting a ton of effort or weight into a pre-season game - it doesn't matter, why risk getting hurt.

So again the Pats job is to score and scoring they are doing - the way they are doing it may just end up biting them in the ass in the long run. If Brady happens to get hurt in a blow out game and is out for the rest of the year then was it worth it? No!

Jet - A good friend of mine is a Pats fan and I of course a huge Colts fan, every year we go back and fourth giving each other flack about their games. As with every Pats/Colts game it's going to be one hell of a game!

What better place to practice 4th down plays. Running these types of plays in a real game against a different defense than your own is invaluable. If you happen to score in the process, then so be it. If you score 100 pts against the other team in the process, then so be it. If the other teams don’t like it, there is always the CFL.

IMO, you try and score no matter what. Practice makes perfect. So far, they are.

IMO they did what I think everyone should do...WIN by as much as possible! I don't believe in handing the ball back to the other team just because they have no chance at winning.

I will say it would have been smart to pull the key players just to avoid unnecessary injury, but still try to score.

I never thought about it this way, it makes perfect sense.

GO COLTS

All you dang Patriot fans!!! Just wait till they run up the score on your favorite team!! LOL :)

I think they are going for #1 on the BCS poll too!

They already did run up the score on my team. But the Bills suck so bad that I actually enjoyed watching it.

Heres my take on it. To leave your starters in a game that is clearly won just to run up the score shows no class. Had they put in some of the second stringers and continued to try and score imo would have been the better thing to do. I'm not saying to hand the ball back to the other team just because they have no chance at winning, that would just be stupid, but to continuing to play your top guys in that situation is just as stupid, and serves no purpose other than to run up the score and rub it in the other teams face, hence, classless.

Give your back ups a chance to knock some dust off, to get some actual game time, and against a defense other than your own, just in case they are needed at a later date. Because trust me, if they continue to pull that kind of crap, one of the dirtier teams will go all out after Brady, and then they are gonna need their back up.

And believe me, I am no Redskin fan, so I am not just defending my team. I really hope Indy sticks it to em real bad!

Amen!!

I agree with you 100%

Finally someone understands my point. I don't care that my team was embarassed.. I can handle that... it was the fact that they left the starters in to finish us off that I thought showed no class. Just padding the stats, and rubbing it in was all they were doing... IMO of course. Like Woodie has said and NC as well.... one of these better teams are going to take there shots at Brady, and if it happen in a game where they are blowing someone out... it just serves them right. Whatever chip the Pats have a their shoulder someone is going to knock it off and I hope it is this weekend in Indy... GO COLTS!!!

i live in new england and i support the pats. they probably dont have much class but maybe just maybe they are trying to show people that they dont have to cheat to win. i dont see why they would go for it on the 4th downs but honesly who cares. if we were going to win like godale said then why not go for it? i honesly would like to see the pats win the superbowl but maybe show a little more class. save all the nonclassy stuff for the superbowl. and if they do win i would hope they would not showboat or brag.

I'm no sports fan by ANY means when it comes to team sports....I think of competition in one way....WIN....I want to see the victor be victorious to the point of shaming their oponent....I think THAT shows class in any competion...as long as you are within the rules and not cheating then ALL is fair...it is the competition's job to retaliate with everything they can.....this type of philosophy is what drives competion to the next level.....in any sport......if you limit a teams capabilities with niceties then you are belittling the opponent by "giving" them a handicap.....if these guys getting paid millions of dollars to play a game can't play well because their spirit got crushed early in the game then maybe the team shoud look at why they got creamed and do something about it next time....remember everyones idea of "fair play" is different and is relative to the sport or activity you are involved in.....I can see what you mean tom but I just don't agree......I think you got your feelings hurt by the Pats and took it personally :D
that being said, being a native born New Englander GO PATRIOTS...HAHAHAHAHA

GO PATRIOTS...HAHAHAHAHA

One of the best sentences in the world.

I agree, if they are being payed millions to play a game and they lost, you have 3 choices. 1. Fire em, 2. come up with a new strategy or 3. cry about it. lol :)

:New_England_Patriot's = :first_place: YAYAYAY!
