I'm not sure if anyone is into racing sims, but this is a really good one. The game came out last month, I downloaded the free demo and bought the full version 2 days later.
It's almost like Gran Turismo 3 for your PC. There's an interesting range of cars and races from touring cars, V8 supercars, DTM, rally, street racing, ice racing and even super trucks. There are 35 real life cars and 31 race locations totally 48 tracks. You can't buy parts and upgrade cars like GT3, but you can tune suspension, gearing, brakes and all that.
The graphics are amazing. But, what I really like is the sound. Sounds aren't just the same clip that's looped over and over. You can hear individual tires break lose, chirp, run off track, etc. The engine sounds are great too. A lot of them have that cool sounding rev-limit pop and overall they're more realistic than most games. There is also very realistic car damage. Tail lights break, bumpers come off, doors get smashed, ripped off and if you get hit hard enough wheels will rip from axles and other cool structural damage.
There are two different racing modes, story line and free race. In story line mode, you enter championships and there's good story scenes between the races. Free race mode allows you to race any car at any track you've already raced at. The only thing I dont like is that you can't simply get in any car and race at any track. You have to actually unlock tracks by racing in story mode, but that's okay.
So if you have a decent machine with some video memory, a joystick and enjoy racing sims... try the 115 mb demo!! I have the Logitech Formula Force GP feedback wheel and pedals. For $70, it's a good setup and I like it. The game supports a clutch pedal, but most setups don't have one. ACT LABS makes a 3 pedal set for $70 that is compatible with all steering wheels. I hope to get that sooner or later. The full version of the game can be bought for $30. Cheap!
