Ansmann Vapor Steering servo

Hi all,
I'm new to rc cars. I bought myself an ansmann virus 2.0 and a vapor as non runners on ebay. I've managed to get the virus working grand. The vapor was fully rebuilt just before i bought it and was all supposed to be working fine. I turned on the controller and the car electrics to check the servos and set it up. I found the steering servo wouldn't move the linkages. It will make a noise as if it's attempting to move the linkages but it wont.
As far as I can tell there isn't anyway of stripping the servo and repairing it although I may well be wrong. Are steering servos just a standard fit as in any old one will do? Or will I have to have a specific one? Is so what type is the best for it? And where can I get the bit of linkage that screws onto the servo? I was a bit rough screwing it on and buggered the splines in the linkage.

I'm not familiar with that rig, but in general, there are standard sizes. Micro, standard, 1/5 scale and a few other variations. A standard servo should work for you. The difference is on the connector and the size/spline count on the output shaft. Many servos come with composite/plastic horns, but some are weak/thin. Hitec servos usually include a nice assortment of horns and their plug works on just about any receiver without having to modify the plug. I have yet to find a servo that I can't plug into a receiver without a bit of sanding or cutting off a tab. You just have to be careful to not plug it in backwards.

Is the virus 2.0/vapor 1/10 scale or 1/8 scale? Buggy, car, stadium or MT?

I typically stick with one specific servo regardless of my vehicle or usage of the servo. I run hitec 985MG's in my savage and revo for throttle/brake and steering. It's a relatively strong/fast servo (172oz/.13s @ 6V) that is sealed to keep water out and they last many years for me.

I think they're both 1/8th scale. Both buggies. I did read somewhere that someone recommended upgrading the standard plastic gear servos for metal geared ones but can't find where I saw it. Is the horn the correct term for the linkage that splines onto the servo?
