Good morning to all-
So, it's Mardi Gras time down here on the Gulf Cost, and that means, among other things, that the weather is generally very nice, winds low, and not so very much rain.

This morning being clear, dead calm, and cloudless, I reckoned it would be a good time to get up with the sun and take myself and one of my Eflite Waco biplanes- the yellow one, to be sure- down to the flying field and see what sort of trouble I could get into.

Fellers, it was lovely. It was so very rewarding to send the little biplane up on perfect, smooth, scale take offs and then up into the sunrise light. Seeing the dawn light flash off the wings and struts of the little yellow plane as I banked it gently made me feel good about the whole world. In low wind conditions, these little biplanes can be tooled around at very slow speed, and just eased about at a slow walk- wonderful.

And in these conditions, I was able to put my little biplane in touch and goes- just barely kiss the pavement and then up and around again. Fellers, made me look like I knew what I was doing- just sayin'. Of course, nothing this fine lasts forever, and I let the little plane's landing gear- the one weak part of this great little rc plane- come down a bit too hard on one touch and go, and one of the wheels and its cover came loose, so I had to bring her back in for a vey gentle touch down and landing- no big damage, and a quick touch of repair hot glue back at the house made things right again.

So, sometimes quite small things can make the world seem a decent place to be despite the craziness going on in high places. At least, it was quite decent in my small part of the world.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

You manage to make a crash sound like such a wonderful experience!!! 🤣 I really do enjoy reading stories like yours. They make me want to learn how to fly! More importantly, I see vids and read about how well mannered and slowly they fly, I feel like I CAN learn to fly!
Fantastic story! Sorry about the broken gear. 👍

Touch and go's are one of my favorite things. :) Nothing like the feelingof touching your main wheels down rolling 5 ft without the tail wheel touching and lifting off again. 😍

I tried to fly a drone my parents gave to me for Christmas one year...nothing fancy, just a $100 beginner drone from Sharper Image. Thought I was doing well then Mother Nature decides it's time to let me know who's really in control and kicks up a gust of wind. Drone goes down right in front of an oncoming car. I don't know if y'all realize this, but a moving car will demolish a small drone. Dad looks at me and says, "You should learn to fly better." Then turns around and walks back into my house and proceed to tell my wife and family about it. 🤣 The dead pan delivery of my father was better than any drone he could've given me.

Well, I think that my cartwheel landing is pretty cool, too! 🙈

Dude, it sounds you're about as natural a pilot as I am! 😄

I've never attempted to try to fly a RC plane. Would be a complete waste of money for me. I love the idea of it and I'd prolly have a blast for about 30 seconds. I could have a bad day with the balsa wood planes with the rubber band powered propellers.

Sad part is, I have Real Flight Sim to practice on, and I'm actually pretty good at it. But, when it comes to the real thing, I think I immediately go into full panic mode once that plane goes the slightest squirrelly 🙄
Also, doesn't help that my far distance vision suck! Doc tells me I'm at 20/20 with my prescription, but it's just not!

Maybe it's this type of 20/20
