Heres how it is. I have my pc I use primarily. Then across the room, I have my tv, ps3, and my newest pc hooked to the tv, all I do with it is watch supercross of youtube twice a week.

But I think I might be ready to start using my new one, inplace of my current one, and give it to my dad. So I wouldnt have one at the tv. But need one for supercross.

What is my cheapest option to get the signal to the tv from across the room? A long monitor cable/hdmi? Or? And Id have to unhook the monitor to hook up the tv everytime right?

it depends on what connections your PC and TV have. if you have both HDMI and DVI or VGA you could leave both connected and just switch the output.

i thought the PS3 had a browser. you could watch the supercross on it and leave the PC alone.

I actually tried that earlier but the screen is little bitty at the quality is only in 2-- and couldnt be increased. Lame.

How do you change the output? My tv has both and I thnk the computer does too. So I should be able to just get a long hdmi and run it to the tv, then switch output when I wanna watch it on there?

I'm looking to spend about $10 :D

forgot I'm getting a new laptop, can you hook a laptop to the tv? If so, I'll just do that.

Aside from all the normal in and out puts my TV has 4 additional HDMI inputs for peripheral devices that can be changed by a button on the remote.
I run my laptop through a long HDMI cable.
Shop for one on the internet and you'll find them pretty cheap. Stores, especially Best Buy will rip you off big time on accessories.

Well I sold my laptop so thats not an options any more lol so I'm back to the beginning. The computer doesn't have a HDMI, just the regular monitor output deal. Soooo, do will I just have to run a monitor cable to my tv and then switch the two at the computer when I want to use it with the tv? Or is there some kind of splitter that both can hook to before it goes into the computer? Like a Y.

what ports does your TV have? you should be able to hook up both and just switch inputs on the TV. just like switching to a DVD player or something.

It has a gazillion hook ups on it. It does have a monitor hook up. I just bought a monitor cable Y which should work ya? And a 15ft monitor cable.

If I have a Y going, that means both the monitor and the tv will be playing the same thing right?

Also keep in mind that VGA only carries video, you will need to connect audio from the computer to the TV. Most computers have a 1/8" mini jack connector for audio and TV's usually have L/R RCA connections. To make this connection get a 1/8" mini jack to RCA cable and a set of RCA cables the needed length.

Rak is correct on the audio. You will still get sound but it will come from the PC and not the TV. They tend to sell VGA cables with built in 3.5mm audio cables. If not you can get them relatively cheap. And YES, Monoprice.com is the cheapest. I just ordered my outdoor TV supplies from there.
