XP boots up to a user profile window where I have 2 different user accounts.
How do I get it to boot into one of them automatically?

Also when it goes to sleep I have to choose a user account when it wakes up. Bugs the crap out of me. I have done this on other computers but I for the life of me remember how or find the answer.

HELP!!

In Control panel go to users.

Make sure your user is admin (it should be by default)

Delete the other user.

Walla....now it only boots to the single profile....

Depends on what you're talking about, eddy. Here are three possibilities and solutions in order that you'd see them:

Seperate partitions (unlikely but possible): As Administrator, go into control panel, system, page over to the Advanced tab, click the Startup and Recovery tab. Adjust the top segment as needed. If you click the "Edit" button, save a backup copy of what you see (copy and paste it to another file).

Seperate hardware profiles (semi-likely on a laptop, unlikely on a desktop): Same control panel applet, but over to Hardware, click "Hardware Profiles", and delete the ones not needed, or adjust as needed.

Desktop logon accounts (much more likely): You will need TweakUI for this. It's a free utility, go to google, type in tweakui, and hit the I'm feeling lucky button. Should take you right to it. Install that, then go to start, all programs, powertoys for xp, tweak ui. Under login, there's a sub-menu item called "Auto login". Fill that out, and the next time you boot, it will automatically load up your desktop.

Hope that helps!

Ah well there should be a seting in there....lemme go check.....hmmm MS seems to have removed the hide this user feature....are you using PRO?

Is the mac account just for file and printer shareing??that should work as a piggyback to your current account?? Or do you have it running a certain task?

Did I tell you I hate computers....and especially MS?

Oh yea what he said.....I had forgotten about TweakUI...good call HeartBreak

Thank you gentlemen!
Tweak was the answer. I now remember that thats the way I did it on other computers

if the machine is win xp you can do this without third party software. just go to start\run and type in "control userpasswords2" (without quotes) then turn off the users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, highlight the user you want to use, type in the password (if ther eis one), and click Ok.

next time you restart the machine should go strait to your desktop.
