That's awesome! Until someone orders something during a hurricane :D or people will begin stealing them.

2015? Ain't gonna happen.

The technology for fuel storage/capacity is not there. Electric or otherwise.

Wow, amazon would have to have so many outlets, that stock everything from their website.....they'd be bigger than Walmart, or target...or something else really big like that.

Thats pretty rad! I dont see it actually happening for a long time. Cool idea though, more faster delivery options are something everyone wants.

Cool concept but..Reality says: This is an epic, disastrous failure in the making.

I envision my eagerly awaited package dropping into a tree, a swimming pool, someone's roof top, getting shot down and eaten by neighbors or being mauled by my neighbors dogs, dropped in the street and run over, etc .

What kind of neighbours do you have, mine have never eaten my mail.

Just threw that in to see if anyone was reading.. Although in some areas of my "hood", I wouldn't put it past them.

The concept was to have several "drones" and a delivery van "mothership" go to a given area and deliver packages at the same time. Good idea in theory but we'll have to see how it works in practice. There is a bounty in some locales for shooting down drones.

UPS is also said to be working on using drones to possibly deliver from the airport to their local sorting hub. This might actually be more doable in the near future.

I see too many reasons for this to fail. Many of which nitrotrout already mentioned. I see theft as the major problem with this, someone sees a nice new amazon drone dropping off a package from blocks away, follows the drone, and snags the drop. Or, just shoot them out of the sky. I for one would not want my delivery dropped off by a drone.

Someone will wait for the drone to land then steal the package and the drone!

I'm a huge Amazon shopper and have been a Prime member for the last year or so and love both amazon and prime. I think this is a pretty innovative idea.

I'm not really falling into the fears that others are having though. I've seen the drones my LHS builds and the GPS on these units are amazing and extremely accurate. I'm sure as time goes forward (2015 or later) that GPS is only going to improve on our "toy" drones.

That said I'm sure what ever Amazon uses will be as good and likely better than our toy drones. So the idea of this dropping in the road, river, lake doesn't seem very likely.

As far as theft, this would be no different then the UPS, FedEx, or USPS leaving your package at the door. In fact I would believe theft would be less of an issue as those that would opt for the 30 minute delivery are likely doing so because they need it quick and either are already at said location or will be very soon. Actually this could be more secure as you could have them delivery in your back yard and not in the front for all to see.

Really the issue I see is there are places that encourage or in the process of encouraging places to shoot down drones. The simple fix for that is for Amazon to not allow 30 minute delivery in those areas - problem solved.

This would be great for a number of reasons, even RC. Imagine you're out at the track and the LHS is closed or not close by. You break a part, need a new set of batteries, maybe a tool, etc. Instead of calling it a day order it from Amazon and have it in 30 minutes. Very cool!

Amazon customer Service, how can I help you?

My package i ordered is stuck in a tree...

Is the tree on your property?

Yes...

what else can we help you with?

I'm only wondering if I can bind my gear to it.........
Just kidding, I'd never hijack someone else's rc ever!
With it's payload being 5lbs, it could be a useful tool in retrieving my dog. She's a lil thing.
