Since the Amazon Fire tablet doesn't run Google Play, do they have a similar app for getting games and such? I'm going to get my dad one for Christmas so he can play some puzzle type games as well as read but am so used to Google Play that I have no idea how any others work.

Mine to you have to put the google play on there to get the VUDU app, I even have the Nook on mine also works flawlessly.

I had looked at some tutorials but also read that apps from Play didnt run smoothly on the Fire? But if you guys say it runs fine then thats what I need to hear.

I wouldn't recommend it. I've used an amazon fire, without a custom ROM, it's appalling. You're having amazon adverts forced in your face, their version of google play doesn't have any google apps on it (not even youtube, it's just terrible) From what I've seen, it's a glorified device for buying off amazon.

I use the FIre HDX with no problems I am using the regular software that came with it, I installed the goolge play app and the nook app and they have been flawless for me since day one. I even have Kodi on it and no problems at all.

Well I bought one for my dad for Christmas already so it will have to work haha.

We....I mean Santa is will more than likely be leaving 2 for my kids. One blue and one pink kids edition for my son and daughter, along with a 64gb micro SD and case for each.

My sister gave both her sons one each last year for Christmas and they love them.

I need to get two new tablets for my kids and have thought about the Fire tablet but also hate that the Google Play store isn't on it so I can't install the kids version of YouTube.

I dorked with the amazon stuff last night and it is just horrible compared to google play.
I haven't tried it yet but this is how I'm going to install Google Play on my parents fires @WoodiE

Seriously?!?! You're gonna wire up the keyboard to shock your parents every time they hit the space bar?!?!?!
Errrrrr... Oh sorry... Was just having some fun in my head... How to mess with my g/f! :joyful:

Are you drunk? Lol jk.

Apparently doing it the way that video shows doesn't work anymore.

Thanks Hamz, I'll give that a try.

How did this work out for you?

I need to look into other ways to install Google Play on a kindle. I like the video but am way to familiar with the risks of installing software from a completely unknown third party website like he suggests.

You have to do the same thing on Android tablets and phones to use Amazon.com apps.

@WoodiE, it didnt work at first but I kept trying and it finally worked. I was getting errors at first when I would try to download the google files but for some reason after like the 5th try it worked. Some of it was different than the video too.
If I were buying one of these cheap tablets again, I wouldnt pick the Fire. I bought a RCA Voyager which is the Fire's competition and I liked it alot better. Seemed like all the Androids I've used, didnt feel lost trying to figure anything out. The Fire just seems goofy to me, everything is Amazon and it seems like they have put in alot of effort to keep it that way.
I don't have the RCA anymore though so I can't comment on how well it works running stuff. I played with it a couple times but ended up buying a bigger LG and trading the RCA in on a game.
