Airbrushing....

Ok well my last attempt turned out ok but my brush was getting really crappy pressure and therefore the paint ended up pretty thin and now i want to do another but... I was told that i can get a hose to adapt my gun to my big shop compressor can i get some info on these...?

And another Q. How many layers do you guys do. And do you put like a backer of white on and if so how many coats of that?

We used to just make our own. Just go to a paint supply store and they can help either way. All you need is a regulator, hose, and some fittings.

Connecting your airbrush to an industrial sized compressor isn't all that difficult. The real tricky part is coupling the end of the airbrush hose to the compressor itself. I have a Paasche hose that came with an adapter that bumped it up to the right sized fitting. Then I just used a male/male adapter to fit it to an inline moisture trap. And on the other side of the trap I fit a standard male compressor coupler so I can just plug it right in to my 13 gal Campbell/Hausfeld compressor. That moisture trap is important if you don't already have one built in to your system. If you start to draw moisture into your air, you can cause all sorts of blotchiness and running in your paint.

ok my compressor has an output regulator and a moisture trap so what pressure do you spray at?

So it should be relatively cheap to do then..

Well I measured my compressor I have 1/2 fittings so the best adapter i can find goes from airbrush( 5mm) to 1/4 inch. hmmm links?

Here are 2 lines with adapters for standard compressor use.
One has the 1/4" and the black one has the 1/8 with an adapter to step it up in size. You also need to know what type snap on you have on the compressor. It's most likely 1/4 NPT Type D, but they vary, even at the same size.
The other end of the blue braided line is a miniature quick release, and there is also a final water trap that has both quick releases to change from different guns and hoses.

On the site I gave you the link to you can look for adapters or you can get a better hose that already has the sizes you need.
If you need the adapter you see on the black hose, you can probably find it on that site. I think I got mine at an art supply shop that sold airbrushes. It might even have been HobbyTown USA. From that adapter you go to the 1/4 npt that you can get at any auto supply store.

I just use an ordinary air duster/blower that's connected to my big compressor. Turn the pressure down and use the good old fuel hose over the blower tip and the other end of the fuel line over the connection to the air brush.
