airbrush oppinions ?

ok I've been looking at new bodies and paint schemes, and decided that its about time to get an air brush for my car painting. I'm looking to spend about 150-200 bucks for a brush and compressor . i was looking at some Paasche stuff on tower hobbies that looked decent for what i need. i just have a few questions about it

1 ) are air brushes harder to get used to then a rattle can ?
2 ) is it tough to mix paint/thinner acurately ?

those are really my only main concerns actually ... I'm lazy and i dont want to take forever to get stuff ready for painting. thanks in advance

As far as ease of use, airbrushes take a little more time and care than a rattle can. But you can do so many more things with an airbrush than you'll ever be able to do with a can. If you're serious about making some cool shells, get an airbrush.
Mixing the paint is easy. I use Parma Faskolor which is thinned with water. Just a few drops works fine, but I usually use it full strength. If I use enamel, I usually thin it 2:1, paint:thinner which isn't hard to do. Trust me, once you get the hang of the airbrush, you won't think too much about spray cans.

If you want to get good deals on airbrushes, first check E-bay. I got a used Paasche VL for $50. Or go to either www.bearair.com or www.dixieart.com and you can get airbrushes much cheaper than at Tower.

I use a standard household Campbell/Hausfeld 13 gal/125 psi compressor to power it. It works great.

thanks candyman , i dont mind taking a long time on a body , i really like to paint them i think its one of the best things about the hobby ... ill check out those sites for the brushes. can you explain a little more about how you thin your faskolor ? thats what I'm going to be using, you said just a few drops. did you really litterally mean a few drops ? if so , I'm down for an air brush... also , I've seen some of your bodies around i think what do you use for a mask on your more detailed things, i have been using just masking tape and cutting, so far it works ok , but i can't get great detail with it.

ok candyman , I'm ordering a compressor like ... today , I'm looking at this one , what to you think ? what kind of brush would be good , a paasche vl sounds like a good one, but lemme know what you think please ? http://www.dixieart.com/TC2000.html

I think that compressor should work well. If I'm reading the info correct, it will run up to at least 40 psi with a Paasche VL airbrush which should give you plenty of pressure to spray any of the popular polycarbonate paints. Just make sure that you have a regulator and moisture trap. These are essential to getting the right coat on your car....
