Hey guys so i have the scx 10 3 jlu. I am curious about adding 4ws. As of now it looks like i need to go with the scx 10 2 front steering portal diff for the read however my only concern is where the bottom 2 links and shocks would mount. On the 10 3, the rear has 3 ears for shock and links side by side but on the 10 2 front steering diff, it only has 2 ears on each side, so would i just use a nylon nut to hold the shock or link against the ears with a washer so it pivots? Is this how to do the 4ws on the 10 3. Found 0 tutorials so I'm gathering intel to attempt. Not sure what body mods il have to do yet for full travel but id use the 10 2 front diff with AMS and retain 4 link . Thanks

Kinda of an old thread, but did you get it figured out?
I did actually. Got a scx 10 2 ar44 portal axle. Bolts on perfectly with the 4 link , also got a servo on axle mount. Did 0 cutting but i do lose about 3/16 of travel on the rear shocks with 110mm shocks as i dont want to cut. Side to side lean i lose 0 but if the back both shocks go all the way down together is when i lose travel. But for 0 cutting I'm happy. Thats with a 40kg servo.

The new issue i have which i correct and waiting on parts is, the 10 2 axle portals dont have upgrade gears so its 16:16 so 1 to 1 ratio. My scx 10 3 portals are 23/12.

The scx 10 2 and 10 3 diff gears are interchangeable so i have 30/8 in both but it puts my rear ratio high so it spins 1 full turn and my front spins only 60%. Which puts me in a negative underdrive or a rear overdrive which is a nono.

Doing the ratios of diff + portals on front and rear i concluded these are my options

Resr Diff 33/8 + portal 16/16 rear = 5.125

front Diff upgrade 24/8 + front stock portal 23/12 front = 4.91

front Stock Diff 30/8 + front upgrade portal 20/15 front = 5.08

i opted for the front diff swap to 24/8 and rear to 33/8.

Now that works it puts me at a slight overdrive in the front but now I'm down torque on my overall final gear ratio so to go back i am changing my motor pinion to a 10 or 11t from 14t. My spur is 40t.

Stock
40/14 spur pinion 2.857

.76 difference from 5.76 to 4.91 for my new front axle ratio which i based it off the front which is my fastest spinning one.

11t pinion gives .78 back so gained .02 gear ratio over my original 40/11 = 3.636 - stock 2.857 = .779 which is perfect. But i purchased a 10t as well cause i wabt to see how kuch more torque it is.

10t gives 1.143 torque over stock so gained .364 torque over 11t ( 1.143 - .779 = .364

Total torque gained is 1.143 minus what i lost .76 stock = .38 gained. Now thats nothing

thats puts my front into a 4.19% overdrive with the new diff gears. For total torque gained I'm too lazy to do the conversion with the new pinion on motor haha. Depends what i go for you get the point i hope haha

edit i did a bit got unlazy

10t is 28.575% gained torque without deductions

11t is 22.11%

Total gained on front

Stock spur pinion 40/14 = 2.857 + portal and diff 23/12 = 1.916 + 30/8 = 3.75 = 8.523

11t 3.636 + 1.916 + new diff gears 24/8 = 3 = 8.552

10t 4 + 1.916 + 3 = 8.916

From stock to upgrade front diff with 11t= about .34% torque gained overall haha

From stock to upgrade front diff with 10t = 4.4% torque gained

this is just based on the fastest turning my front axle.

if i did my numbers properly.

Good. I've gone down to 9T/45T Pinion/spur and it was a bit noisy. I think the geometry of the 9T 32P doesn't work well on that small of a diameter. Could be the angle of pressure is weird, or maybe I had a crappy pinion?

You can always fit a larger spur gear on there as well.

Any video of it running?

Thats what someone recommended 9t but i didnt feel like touching the spur yet, my current setup before gears was noisy with a fusion pro. Same with buddies so i guess its normal .

I dont, have the gear coming soon. I just fitting the rear steer 4 days ago and realized i didnt order gears , never thought of it. Wished the portals could be upgraded.

Found a site yesterday called 1tenth they make soa mounts for the 103 front... little angry as i would have done that to make life easy. Cost a bit more the bracket alone is 50canadian, which is what i paid for a scx 10 2 axle with the mount. Now i need gears ao it may have been a pretty even option
