A model I've just started!

Yeah, same here. And my hands shake really bad sometimes, which is surprising because I'm 17, but it is what it is. I have to use extreme caution when painting so I don't smear paint in places I don't want it.
You think you are shaky now....just wait till you're 68, with crappy eyes.

Yes, sometimes not so much fun, but the upside is being retired and doing what you want when you want. More time for hobbies!!

Are you done yet? 🤣

Just messin' with you, I am in no position to talk when it comes to finishing projects.

I should also mention that I will probably now finish the four car models that I have, plus the one my dad wants me to do with him. I have one that's almost finished, one that's half finished, one I cut all the pieces out, and the last one the box is still in the plastic wrap.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen him be so honest with his unfinished projects 🤔

Hmm, maybe I should run for office! 😁 Jokes aside, my generation kinda sucks, but they're figuring it out. Also, satire is one of the best forms of comedy.

Alright, update time! After the parade today I will probably finish it. So far, I have painted most things, including the hull, port windows, gun barrels, main turrets, helicopter and other small boats, helicopter crane, and the radar dish. Because I suck at painting (until I improve) I ignored the instructions for camouflage and found a reference image of what the ship looked like fresh off the line: red hull, black stripe halfway up, gray for the other half, almost all gray on the superstructures. I painted the main turrets silver to make them stand out, and I'm going to do the same for the 5 inch guns and the shields on the 20MM auxiliary guns.

I still have to paint the bases another coat on one and two on the other (they're not glued in yet, so I don't have to worry about getting paint on the hull). I need to paint a few things gold:

Some black:

And some silver:

I also need to tie the rigging and hang the flag. I'm going to use the ceremonial arrangement for signal flags, with all of them hung in a specific order, detailed here, minus the numbers and repeaters:

Edit: I also have to do all the stickers, most of which are tiny. Oh boy. They're actually not too bad, and I've had practice from Cub Scout pinewood derby cars, which I got design awards for, so they must've been alright. Just need my modeling tweezers! :D

The model looks really good! I am not sure I could do one like that, it looks so small I don't think it would turn out well for me. Maybe I missed it, but what scale is that ship in?

1/500. It's just under 15 inches long, and about five tall and 4 3/4 wide.

In the pics it looks smaller. You got me thinking of doing a few ships, that is one area I have not modeled.

Size/scale is one thing you definitely need to think about. You need space to display the finished models.
