A Ben Franklin store just opened recently in my town and they have MODELS! Picked up my first battleship model yesterday, USS North Carolina. All my others are WWII bombers, an Apache, an A-10, and a bunch of old cars.

Oh, cool! Do you still have relatives near here? You should visit sometime, for the memories! The prices are pretty good too, better than Hobby Lobby.Didn’t even realize they were still around. My grandpa used to take me there when I was a kid
Edit: didn’t even realize where you were from either. I grew up in Marshall county. The Ben Franklin was in Chillicothe.
They're probably worth a good bit still.I spent a LOT of time building models. I still have a pretty large stash of unbuilt models.
Yeah, same here. And my hands shake really bad sometimes, which is surprising because I'm 17, but it is what it is. I have to use extreme caution when painting so I don't smear paint in places I don't want it.Thats pretty cool. I build models too, but I have to be in the mood. Sometimes I get to a point where it is just frustrating and I have to give it a break.....
Sorry to hear :/My hands shake really bad sometimes, which is surprising because I'm 17, but it is what it is. I have to use extreme caution when painting so I don't smear paint in places I don't want it.
Yeah, I'm hoping it's just part of having ADHD, although it'll probably get worse over time. I'll have to make the most of being young while I can, I don't want to regret not doing anything.Sorry to hear :/
It's definitely something I have notice as I age.
I used to love building models, I haven't in literally ages.
I have fond memories of building a '96-'97 Ford Mustang around when that body style debuted. Good time![]()
You sound like a model citizen.I spent a LOT of time building models. I still have a pretty large stash of unbuilt models.
Hey, quick question @CreepyQuarryCrawler @rhill @Doom! I've never built something of this scale before, and I noticed the main deck is pretty warped. Is this something I could carefully soften with a lighter or hair dryer and fix, or should I ask for a replacement? It came like this, box was still wrapped in plastic. I think it's just a mistake from the factory.
Yeah all our family is still there, we up there a couple times a year. Was actually supposed to be there in June, but I’m gonna have to stay back cause of work now. Wife n kids still goingOh, cool! You can certainly try heating it and placing like a textbook or something on it. I use heat quite a bit to work or shape things. If you have a heat gun be careful how close you get.
It's a medium viscosity gel, but there's only going to be stuff glued in the middle third of it. Everything else glues into holes on the main deck, so it won't help straighten much. What kind of glue are you using? If it's liquid start at the back, and glue small sections at a time working your way forward, let each section set up before working forward, this should work out the warp as you go.
No, clearly visible. Is the top of the deck hidden?
My dad says he doesn't want to mess with that. Mostly because my mom said he shouldn't let me do that. We do have a heat gun, and I have some experience with it, so I'm going to test it on a piece of branch and see how well it would work.Maybe able to soften it chemically?

I actually just used the heat gun, and it worked quite well. During testing with a branch I discovered that this plastic apparently has a decently high melting point compared to my workbench... oops! It's fine though, just cosmetic lol. I managed to straighten the part to nearly level, which is more than good enough to complete it.Pouring boiling water over it is a better choice than a heat gun.
