Although I have some spaztix gold that I'm anxious to try.

I just used it yesterday for the first time. I just finished an Escalade EXT. I did blue flakes in the 1st clear coats, then backed it with Parma black. The end result is beautiful, just as I expected.
I had masked off the side trim and the 2 end rails on the roof rack to do in gold. Take my advise here, practice on scrap.
It's transparent, and gets backed with chrome.
My trim looks like polished copper. Actually a great match against the body, but the gold should have been ONE very light coat to look like gold. Trust me...Do some test runs.

I found out that Parma black backing is the best for Spaz Stix chrome. When I backed some with white Spaz backing, the next mask pulled off some white, which in turned pulled off all but the first coat of chrome, leaving a mottled look in the grill, even after touch up.

Every time i back it with pactra black is flattens the chrome to a more alum. look
haven't sprayed it in a while i know they made a chrome 2 version of it ..guess i'll give it a try soon

Sounds like you just needed another coat or so of chrome. Possibly it was too thin.

Thanks for the heads up Rolex. I bought it to use on my JMac Crown Royal sprint car so yeah, I'll be spraying some scrap to get it right.

Work #2

This one is based off of the Fine Design watercooled brushless article in February's edition of RCCA. The original was done on an Aston Martin but we're gonna replicate the theme on a Porsche. It was orginally supposed to be done on a Mclaren but unfortunaly I fubared it real bad and gave up trying to fix it. After many attempts at locating another Mclaren (discontinued) Ericke decided the Porsche was his second choice so I've spotted him a new body. I'm gonna step this one up a bunch in an attempt to make up for the loss.

Thanks for be patient and understanding Erick.

Here it is drawn up...

Black, Silver, and Yellow w/ silver and white trim. The wide diagonal stripe at the sides and around the back is black. The area below it is silver. The section to the rear and over the front wheels is black at the tips and fades to silver at the wheel. The section at the lower front is black, as is the center area of the hood and the corresponding section on the roof. The remaining area is a light yellow as is the wing. Pretty much all the dividing lines are just the basis of 2-3 stripes

That's gonna be a beautiful body. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and start building some on roads just so I can come up with scemes for the bodies. Peronally all the cars I build (1:1 cars) are on-road hot rods. Street trucks, muscle cars, sports cars, that kinda stuff. So I'm really looking forward to getting into that aspect of the hobby, it's just that the only places I have to run my RC's are all off road. I can't afford to have an asphalt track poured right now because of the money that I've spent on my RC's and the dirt for the off road track, but with time an on-road track will come. I can't wait to detail the bodies!!

This is a time consuming body... I've realized that anything with pinstripes is much more difficult. Lately, I've been trying not to use any mediums aside from a hobby knife and spray mask but when it comes to works with this much striping I know I won't get a good outcome if I don't use narrow pinstripe tape. It's just one more thing to do.. Besides, these lines are really long because it's a 1:8 scale so any anomallies in stripe width will be much more apparent. I've spent several hours today cutting in spray mask. The Porsche shield and Porsche script are cut out so far. so is the basis of the nose design. I'm gonna have to go to the store and get some more pinstripe tape before I cut out the rest. I also just finished cutting out the design on an MLST body I'm doing for Savagefan04. It's weird cuz the MLST is about 1/6 the size of the Porsche and I felt more comfortable cutting all the drips on that than I did cutting one straight line on the Porsche. I guess it just comes down to the fact that some aspects of it come more naturally than others. I can roll a knife in my fingers to keep a tight curve flowing but I can't cut a straight line to save my life. heh.

just a little teaser...

Long week at work, didn't get much painted until today.

Pardon the crappy lookin' 'STUTTGART'. I'm not very good with a paintbrush. Hope you like the monochromatic love

Looking beautiful.
You might want to check out Testor's Sure Thing decal kit. I got mine at HobbyTown. For lettering, or any other graphic you want, you do it in your PhotoShop or Corel, and you can print it in forward or reverse, on white or clear. Perfect for tough lettering or graphics.

I'm not a big fan of decals really. I like to do as much as is reasonably possible with paint, that's where the satisfaction is for me.

Totally understandable, but it's also nice to know that in a tough spot, you can produce anything you want with absolute perfection.

After the fact, I realized I probably could have gotten away with writing it with an extra fine Sharpie.. damnit, too late now. I'll keep that in mind for the future. time to go paint some more...

Here's the original work that I'm copying for the 2nd body. This is an Aston Martin but I'm attempting to recreate it on a Porsche. It'll be finished tomorrow.
