4 stroke t-maxx

has anyone ever tried putting a 4 stroke engine in their maxx? they look like they have lot of torque. what are your guys's thoughts?

this wouldnt work for a couple of reasons unless
1. the weight of the engine would completely mess up the handling
2. 4 stroke engines run at about 3600rpm if you wanted to scale it up to 35,000 rpm you would have to do some pretty complex gearing
3. the drivelines of these cars could not handle that ammount of torque

They're only used on airplanes, since it's just a matter of changing the size and pitch of the prop.

Theres a vid somewhere on youtube I've seen. What would be the point? reliability? power?
Just go BB for power.
go electric for reliability, or so i think.

On an airplane it's for the low end power you can only get from a 4 stroke. Stunts and hovers that just wouldn't respond quickly enough with a 2 stroke that needs to achieve high RPM to reach it's maximum power.

OS made a 4-stroke surface vehicle engine for a while but it has been discontinued.

What exactly makes them a 4 stroke I mean don't they run on nitro blended with oil and a glow plug too?

neweramodels.com sells Tmaxx chassis to swap a 4-stroke, people have done it..
And they probably did it just to say they did or something haha.

Pretty much. My buddy had one. It was a torque monster but no top end what so ever. Might be good for a nitro crawler though.

Yea I have never had trouble with my 3.3 lacking crawling power. More on steep hills the front end doesn't wanna bite and stay down so you start going sideways and loosing ground.

The sound is something else, that's for sure. There was a dude I found on youtube that did it to his revo and raced it. Was awesome to see the amount of torque/smoke the thing put out. It would just squirt over doubles and tripples with ease.

If I could find the vid, i'd post the links. The guy had a couple full race vids on youtube, but for the life of me, I can't find them now.

A very good friend of mine had an O.S .40 four stroke in his T-maxx and when I saw that I had to have one . I disagree on a few things ..

1. The weight isnt that much more if any than a big block .21 or bigger . The only problem a friend of mine had with his was a custom heavy flywheel was needed to maintain a proper idle .
2. I believe the O.S .40 4 stroke ran around 10,000 +/- but I could be wrong .
3. If your goin to put any big block motor in most guys beef up the drivelines anyways . I know a properly shimmed diff will hold a O.S .40 just fine . Plastic shafts not so much but metal options are available .

That being said its all what the OP whats to do with it . Its a bit of work but in the end you get something cool with tons of power and you built it . I say go for it .
