Well i ordered my 3 speed on friday and it got here today! it was brand new off a Savage XL. I get it all installed and everything goes fairly smooth. I know i will need to change the shift points but i'm not sure how much so i rev it up and i get no shifting. Just 1st winding out. cool. i pull the top off and get the gear assembly in my hand. i pull out he setscrew that holds the cross pin in on 3rd gear. I slide my 2.0mm driver into the crosspin and give it a turn, all i get is the feeling that it slipped and when i pull out the driver it is covered in shavings!!! the allen head on the crosspin basically crapped out on me in one turn. needless to say, i am rather annoyed right now. I pull the assembly off the from other side and i am just able to back out the 1-2 shift a turn so i can still adjust the shift points but it takes another few minutes. I am just mad that the pin head fell apart so easily. i had a solid bite on it and it just chipped off the sides. Anyone else have this happen?

Also my 1-2 is rather quick but 2-3rd is perfect. should i wind out first before it shifts or should it shift at about mid-rpm range.

into 2nd

it hits 2nd just as first is about to run out, it took me 3 DAYS!! to get this set this way, and let me tell you its perfect. when i do have enough room to hit 3rd its off like rocket. never seen somthing this big go so fast.. bye the way DONT RUN TRAXXAS TOPFUEL in a hpi bigblock.. they dont get alone.

i'm running odonell in the axial .28rr. i will tweak it tomorrow then. i don't see it taking longer than a half hour to get it perfect.

if its the 3 speed in the XL your talking about? lol have fun it will be more then 30mins to find your favorite shift points.

how? it take less than 5 minutes to adjust the tranny. start it, wind it out, adjust again. i'll post back how long it takes.

when you try to find your favorite shift points you will see what i mean, then you might not be as perticular as me.. and is the the 3 speed from the XL?

yes this is the XL but it looks the same as the old 3 speeds which weren't bad to tune

i normally tune the tranny 1/10th a turn at a time. one full turn is the normally the difference between an immediate shift and shifting at peak rpm.

2-3 is already perfect so 1-2 is all i need to set.

cool, i will get a high speed video later today after its tuned.

post one of yours too if you can.
