3 bad JR syn receivers.... Anyone else?

I'm actually a cut from a different cloth. I run a HiTec Lynx 3D full synth, and never had a glitch.

Finally someone has come forth to state that the Novak receiver works with the JR radio without a glitch. Thanks, Scott.

You can get a Novak receiver that will work with that...

CLICK HERE and scroll down about half way. You will see a few to choose from. Note, most come without crystals. Those you will have to supply.

Will the ones I have work?

Sorry for the questions, but I've been mostly involved in the mechanical aspect of these and most other things I've worked on. As for the radio and bats, I throw whatever in it that makes it go and lasts the longest.

I'll say that I am fairly certain that they should work. Most crystals are cross compatible. I have not seen any major differences in crystals, but people keep telling me that there are some that are designed to be brand specific. Since I live in a synth world, I have not noticed this phenomena. My HiTec crystals and my Traxxas crystals from the stock radios for my Savage and my T-Maxx look identical except the paper tag that identifies its frequency.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it. Both my JR receivers have a tendency to glitch. The one in my losi glitches if I put it in the maxx as well. I think it's all the metal in it. The losi is mostly graphite.

Based on the way this thread started, I would say that you are not alone in this experience. Let me know if you come across something out of the ordinary in the way of crystals. I can amend my tune if someone shows me this difference in crystals. Until then, I am sticking with my story and the laws of physics.

I thought all tuning crystals were just a rock under electonic pressure that made them "vibrate" to the frequency that they are cut for. Unless there is some sort of polarity, I wouldn't know either.

just to give an update to my post earlier in this thread. JR sent back my "smoking receiver" and fixed it free of charge. :)

flash183, good idea to update. Here's my update: JR did replace my one very bad vibration-sensitive receiver. I have another one that is glitching mildly (glitches with engine off, tap on RX box), but this is not yet affecting performance when running, so I have not sent it back.

I must admit, I DO like the JR XS3 radio.

got two recievers from jr - for the xs3 - both work fine

one in my supermaxx

one in my tlt

i beat the tar out of my maxx, i mean like just being mean to it, no problems

Since this thread is revived, I will add that I have had dirt in my recievers cause glitching. I now put tiny pieces of foam in the unused connector holes to keep dirt out.

These synthesized radios were available for R/C airplane flyers a few years ago. Some flyers refused to upgrade, referring to them as "Dial a crash". I think the worst of the early bugs have been worked out.
ALL airplanes have the Rx wrapped in foam rubber to insulate them against vibration. If you don't do that, you are inviting a problem sooner or later. Buggies take more of a beating than planes, so I don't know why they are not installed in a padded holder.
To add a bit of info on digital servos, there is a computer program you can get, along with a USB hardware device that you plug your servo into, and program it for what you want.
ie. length of throw in either direction, speed of rotation, and torque. There is a circuit inside the servo that is programmable.

another update to the saga....

this past weekend some serious glitching.

(note: after talking with a tech at JR I've learned some new terms. As my servo sits idle it makes a buzzing/twitching sound. That is not glitching, I didn't know that. That is JR's definition for normal behavior. Glitching is what happend to me this weekend...)

when i turned the steering the throttle servo would turn sporadically. It was bad enough that it caused me to wipe out a few times. When I got home i figured out the problem. It was my batteries. I tried all combinations of rechargable and alkaline - all at full strength. The alkalines always caused the glitching. I checked the polarity, tried new ones etc, same problem. Didn't happend with any of my different rechargable ones. I also tried it with different AA battery cases, same thing.

Anyone know why that was happening???

The noise a normal servo makes can often times be confused with "glitching".

Glitching is any erratic behavior a servo makes when normal inputs are either made or not made.

flash, that's interesting about the batteries. I didn't really pay much attention to battery type, but since you mentioned it, I have not noticed any real glitching since I switched all vehicles to nimh RX packs. Damn, I'm curious as to whether there is some correlation.

Smoked Receiver

flash183-

Sorry so late into the program, but it caught my eye when I saw the bit about the smoked RS300 RX.

I had the exact same problem when I plugged the receiver pack in for the very first time. First it was that inevitable ozone smell then a small wisp of smoke coming out of the box. No, I didn't switch the polarity inadvertently. I sent the receiver in for repair and had it back within two weeks free of charge! I'm guessing they hosed something up at the manufacturing plant and knew it was a problem. Maybe not, maybe they're not concerned about profits and they're just being nice... mm-hmm.

No problems at all since it was returned. No glitching or anything suspect. The JR XS3 and RS300 I bought used fortunately has never shown any signs of problems either.

Anyway, just thought it was strange we both encountered the same problem and both units were repaired free of charge.

high there new member (australia)
I've had xs3 for about 1yr now been good till now
I've had alot of clashers with other drivers mine is 27mhz
the reason is the channels selection numbers in manual dont
corrospond with tx selection, plus manual says l have 6 options when l have found out that l have 12

now u can image the head aces we have on race days now with about 15 of these units in our club.

Dude, I never saw a harder post to comprehend. Try using some correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ouch, my head still "aces".
