My opinion is the Tmaxx sucks. BUT I totally will give it the credit for getting me and a billion other into the hobby. Traxxas did a great job getting the tmaxx onto shelves and not just in hobby shops. So having it so available, looking bad ass like a mean monster truck, having a high speed pasted on the box and having lots of aftermarket support right on the shelves with it, it was the perfect rig to get anyone started into the hobby. I've yet to even see a savage in person and I've had over 50 rc's, its just not something that is pushed on the public like the tmaxx was. Traxxas also has HUGE sponsorships out there in the motor sports world such as off road racing and supercross, which has tons of kids watching, which makes the parents go buy them a traxxas. The only traxxas worth a poop is the slash and slash 4x4 in my opinion, but they sure know what they are doing when it comes to sales.

I see ur guys's points with parts for traxxas, but imo they are way overpriced for there quality. I have own a few traxxas products, and wasn't happy with them durability wise. I like hpi because the savage is the most durable truck I have seen yet. It also give you more bang for your buck. for an example, a t-maxx 3.3 imo should be priced at 350$-400$ tops. not close to 600$ like there are now.
 
Traxxas has been creeping up in price. I still think they are important because they are getting into more markets than most other manufacturers. I remember seeing them in Pep Boys auto parts shops a while back.
 
I think a lot of it comes down to personal experience, I have had hpi in the past and wasn't really a fan , I recently bought an octane but while I like the gas side of things the rest of the truck is very underdone .to me traxxas is a bit more well rounded , some good points some bad but at the end of the day my revo out guns most of the savages I come across in both handling and performance and durability but that's my personal experience and I'm sure others differ.

Yeah HPI to me has some really solid kits and they have some really crappy ones too. I think its unfair to compare a revo to a savage though as a revo is kind of a cross between a MT and a truggy. I wanna get a revo though one of these days just so I can get to know that kit...it really is in a class of its own.
 
I agree that it's a bit unfair to com pair but Iit happens all the time it gets a bit tiring.
at the end of the day if you are going to treat your truck like a freestyle mx it's going to break no matter what it is.
When I first got serious about nitro I bought and 4909 and it was great but like any noob I fried the engine in under 2 gallons and broke my fair share of things , some where because the truck was fragile but most were pilot error but I learnt and upgraded the truck to suit and it is still going strong after 6 years . I would like to hope my savage does the same thing.
