Can any 2.4 GHz receiver be bound to any transmitter? I ask because i just bought a futaba 3PM-MX and want to be able to take advantage of the 10 model memory.

Hey Goat....sadly no you have to use Futaba FASST receivers. They do have a cheaper 2.4 receiver out but it will not work with the FASST system. Bummer because those thing are $55 vs $90 a pop.

So its the FASST system that gets you. Damn...i have 2 other trucks i want to witch over. Oh well. Maybe for my birthday.

They are worth it though. I cannot get over the precision and speed this radio has with digi' servos.

I'm new to nitro Rc and I was wondering if anyone could explain to me how 2.4 GHs transmiters work. I just got a Traxxas Jato 3.3. Put new front arms and busted the front end a few times. I plan to get a buggy or a truggy in a couple months and I was wondering how to do one controller for multiple cars. I heard they have ABS and stuff like that. The controller that comes with my Jato is the weird crappy stock kind and it always blinks to tell me my batteries are low. I was wondering about investing in a better transmitter.

I thought the same thing when I was shopping for my spektrum... at the time, was near $200 for the xmitter and receiver, then another $100 for each receiver. So a minimum of $400 to get all my rigs on it. I got lucky though with mine as I bought it used off ebay for around $120 with a receiver, then picked up a second off a buddy in trade and two more receivers from various forum members for around $50 a piece.

I really wanted the airtronics one, but it wasn't as common. I liked my MX-3 FM xmitter screen, but knew I would fork out a premium on the receivers if I went with their 2.4G version.

It depends on the controller as far as the features are concerned.

My spektrum 3.0 has a 4 model memory, which is a low number these days. You have to bind each receiver to the transmitter. You do this for each model memory number and receiver. When I switch models on the xmitter, it switches to the receiver I bound that model number too.

When you set up the model, you set up the servo EPA's and trims for each model number for the specific vehicle your going to use that model number for. When you have everything setup and you switch model memory numbers, those settings are stored so all you have to do is switch the model on the xmitter and go.

I am using 3 models at the moment. Have a 4th in the mail and a spare receiver ready to use. Which means I'm maxed out on what my transmitter can do, so if I get another rig, I have to either buy a new transmitter (that will work with my current receivers), or transplant one of my current ones to the 5th vehicle. Although... I don't see a 5th in my future any time soon.

Darn...

So you have to buy a new rx for each rig? can't you just buy crystals? I guess that wouldnt work for a 2.4 Ghz transmitter the way it works? I don't have that kind of cash yet so is it possible to just buy more sets of crystals and have all the same ones in each car and if there is interference you could have more than one frequency? i guess that would be a cheaper alternative but you wouldnt have all the cool stuff a digital hi tech controller can do, which defeats the purpose.... So I guess save up but I really want to get a second car. So hmm. i have spreadsheets to make :hehe:

You don't use crystals on a 2.4. I have seen guys that had one receiver and would swap if from a couple different vehicles and each was set differently in the controller's model memory. They mounted it with heavy velcro and rip it out for the next ride. The model memories with make the same receiver behave and react in different ways depending on how the controller is programed. Futaba now has a 2.4 (not FASST) that is $109 and the receivers are around $64.

Thanks

Yeh so I think I'm going to get a good tx and one rx because that is all I need for now and then when I get another car I'll just sell the stock rx and swap the 2.4 one until I buy another. Same with hop-up parts. Why keep the stock ones? sell em if they are still good. Except if you own two of the same vehicle.

I agree...I end up keep too much stuff around that I will never use. Why? Because the second I throw it away.....I or a friend will need it. But yeah the 2.4 is a great upgrade. But don't forget the external failsafe!

I have The Airtronics M11, and just ordered another Rx for it today for my latest project. Normally they go for 99 to 109, but I found one brand new on the bay for 85. Under $4 shipping.

Found this great controller I'm looking to buy! Can any of you tell me if it's of any quality. If I had a huge wad of cash I'd buy a Futaba but I don't and this one looks good. It comes with a rx and the Jato battery tray is already 4 cell AA so all I need to do is plug and play!
