18T Build Frustrations!

Hey Guys,

I am just about complete with my 18T build and all I had left to do was to build the shocks. Well I got to the first shock and was ready to install the first miroscopic e-clip and when I went to pop it on with my needle nose pliers and it promptly bent. Now I was not putting the old kabosh to it either. I was being careful... damn thing folded right up. So I sat that shock down and proceeded to build the others... which went ok. I got all the shocks built. SO... I went back to the shock I bent the e-clip on to build what I could.... I got everything built that I could and went to pop the cup on the bottom of the shock body when it promptly split in two! So now I have a completed 18T, minus one freakin shock! My LHS does not have any microscopic e-clips or a shock rebuild kit which it turns out I need for one freakin e-clip! That kit cost $10 bucks! Not that that is high but for just needing one e-clip.... rediculous! You would think AE would put extra clips in the kit! Oh well I figured I would vent my frustrations! Just do what I'd do; buy an RTR one, and tell the wife that was the only way to get the part you needed.



Seriously; I've been there too. I have trouble even with the larger clips in the 1/10th shocks. I've been known to go though an entire roll in 5 minutes time, due to them flinging off to god-knows-where.

I think thats a 1mm shaft. The smallest I have is 1.5mm.
I noticed that they only give you the exact amount of clips in the kit. I had one fly across the room as I was doing mine. Later that evening, I just so happened to see it on the garage floor 10 feet from my bench.

AE will replace that plastic piece that split. I had one split on me when I built mine. I sent it in to AE as a defect (which it is anyways, I think it's the way they are molded) and they sent me new parts.

Thanks for not making me feel like the lone stranger guys! LOL I don't feel so bad now. I plan on calling AE to see about the busted end cap today... we shall see what happens. I ordered a shock rebuild kit today so it should be here in the next few days. Just makes sense to me to include an extra few of those little clips in the kit. Maybe AE will figure this out one of these days. Oh well... thems the breaks! Thanks for listening guys.

No doubt there!

Well one more frustration to add to the list. I was trying to pop the turn buckle off to get at the servo and when I went to pop it off the damn turnbuckle bent, and when I went to straighten it out...... snap! the damn thing broke. So now I have a ti turnbuckle on the way..... damn thing is sweet... just small! I have broken more things on this truck already and the thing hasn't even run yet!

Drill out the ball caps on the next set.
Remove the ball stud with the TB still connected by inserting your wrench into the hole you drilled into the ball cap and unscrew the stud.

So that is how that works! I drilled out the cups I just couldn't figure out how it was supposed to help. Now that I know you unscrew the stud... it makes much more sense! I can be dense sometimes! Wouldn't unscrewing the stud eventually strip out the holes though?

Not if you dont use the "Death Grip" when you put them back in. Just screw them in till they touch. No torque is needed after they bottom out.

I know that feeling very well. I get it every time I visit the LHS on my lunch hour and come back with something. Sometimes it is pure agony! LOL
