I had an '88 GT in Black, I don't know what the difference between the UK and USA specs are but mine had no cat and went like hell stock, I loved it, drove it as often and as far as possible right up until the wife slid into the back of a Volvo that had a tow bar.........

Don't forget to bolt-on a huge dinner table sized rear spoiler on the boot lid and fluro lights underneath!! :jk:

I thought that 2.2 was supposed to be the baddest engine in the toyota herd?
the only real gas hog I ever had was a bronco w/ a 460......I got better milage than your camino Jesse....8mpg city 10Hwy (if I drove it nice).....you could stomp it to the floor and watch your gas guage go down...LOL....I couldn't imagine driving it w/ todays gas rates......
Zandor you have pics of the current state of car?
I mean is it honestly worth putting in only 7grand to redo it if the car has over 200k.....
if you're doing all/most of the work your self that's an obtainable goal but if you take it to a shop for some of that stuff...you aren't even close to tthe ballpark

Zandor you could do what most people don't do,put a rx-7 rotary engine in it,have the head's done, put a turbo on it,you would be set,or you can go the american way,and buy a smallblock 350 and drop in it.

Hope you have a machine shop to do all that in....cause you'd pay someone more than your budget just in labor..........I just payed someone to take my 5.0 out of my ranger and put the 3.0 and tranny back in.....I sorted out the harness and labeled everything for them and it still cost 600 bucks in labor....and that was a deal for all the stuff that had to be done...should've been 1G easy...if I didn't do the harness it would have been another 300 easy....to do all that custom motor mounting is a bitch.....I had to hammer in my firewall on my ranger to get the tranny in for the 5.0 and they already make mounts for everything.....when I had the time to put it all in it took me 5 days straight workin 10 hr days w/ 2 people helping at different times.....I dunno how all you guys think this is easy stuff, maybe your all alot younger and are still getting the parent funding but you guys need to join reality in what he can realistically do w/ this....

You've got a good point there,i don't get parent funding, yeah i am young,I've seen engine swaps done,it's really not that hard to do if you know what your doing and know what to prep.If i were you,i would done the work yourself,it's really not that hard, unless you don't have the proper tools and materials then paying somebody is a hell of a lot easier.

Why did you take the 5.0 out for a 3.0?! I believe Performance Automotive Warehouse makes a ford 552ci big block you could slap in that ranger with a little love... Maybe a roots type blower and a richmond 6 speed tranny... Then you need 50 inch wide tires to put the power to the ground and a few lead weights in the ass end... yeah :jk:

Zandor, just slap a reman engine in the Toyota and keep the little woman happy. Then get that damn truck running. Then get the T-Bird finished. :hammer:

Wow, I forgot about that. You're the one with the T-Bird!
Just rebuild that incredibly dependable 22 R, and put some bux into the bird.

Yeah and move the firewall about 10 inches back.. That wouldnt be fun..

As far as the rotary comment, I've always had bad luck with them, and havnt heard to many good things about them, and have yet to see anyone drop one in any other vehicle besides a Mazda.. Would be a waste of time and money IMO.. You can thank Fast and Furious for making Rotarys the "talk"..

A small block chevy would be pretty cool. Youd have to tub the poop out of it, and probably do some firewall work, but would be pretty neat. I agree with just putting in a new 22r or rebuilding the engine and sticking the dough into the T-bird.. Thats a sweet car for sure!

off on our rotary tangent, there are plenty of toyota starlets around this area with rotarys in them, they run consistant 10-12sec times at the track. but thats all they are is track cars.

if you have another car that needs money zandor just rebuild the toyota, cause really its not worth it to hook it up.

I blew the tranny in my truck a few weeks ago and I need it to be dependable right now...luckily I still had the stock engine and tranny at pop's shop....I would've put it back in but my willingness in friends to help is limited right now....I just didn't have the time.......I'll get the tranny back in working order and slap it back in myself......there were no company vehicles available when I did the re-swap so I couldn't not have a vehicle for too long......

and RC10: if I threw that much dough into a ranger I would hope a good friend would put a bullet in my head for being such an ass clown.....for that kind of money I could buy an already hooked up honda or put most of the money down on a new WRX.......that stuff you're talking aint cheep my man.....I'm saving to buy a house and those don't come cheap either......and w/ all the RCs I "must" have I just can't do that to my truck....NO freakin Way....

Well rotarys have been "the talk" as far back as 93 from what I remember. There were 2-3 car clubs in town that specialized in swapping rotarys into just about any kinda small sporty machine on the market. One of them even made a 3 cylider (3 bank - whatever) that thing was BAD ASS. Smoked the tires through 3 gears in a little corolla.

From what I've seen of the ricers there is ALOT that can be done to that car/engine. The question really is, what kind of condition is the rest of the car in? Do you see yourself driving it for the next 5 years? I just had to go through the same thing with my motorcycle (1985 Yamaha Maxim 700cc). I loved that bike and it ran great but it was a harsh winter here and it took its toll. (I dont have a garage) It would have cost me $1700 to get everything fixed and looking pretty again. Then at the end of it all I'd still have a 20yr old bike. It just didnt seem worth it to me.

If it were my decision to make, and I was dead set on hopping it up, I would get a remanned engine, good performance electronics package, high flow intake, catback exhaust and call it a day. You would get some good performance and can still keep it as a daily driver.

A buddy in High school had one of those corollas.....not much bigger than the original mini.....yeah the rotary engine made it haul ass for about 20000miles then it just died.....he said that was all they were good for?!?!?!? WTF good is that.....I'm sure you should be able to get more out of them as a daily driver but even pounding gears constantly my engines better last longer than 20000........

Rotarys are good for more,if they weren't mazda wouldn't be using them, you can have a rotary last a long time,it's all how you treat your engine,if your driving like bad outta hell all the time and roasting your tires off, then most motors will do that, and chances are you buddy probablly over rev the piss outta that little engine, rotarys aren't bad,but there is up's and down to everything,it's all on prefernce when it comes to engines anyways.

Is that leaking from the gas tank?

nope, its not very easy to build a 400 hp motor and get 20 mpg lmao!
It was built for Dragracing and not daily driving but I drove it on the streets anyway :)

I just seen a Ranger in my hotrod magazine and they dropped in a 466 and they had to modify everything, including putting a 3 inch body lift on it to make room for the c6 tranny. Then there was no room for a big enough radiator to keep the large of a motor cool so they had to put it in the bed of the truck Imo totaly not worth the money or effort. It looks stupid lmao!!!

Maybe I just got a lemon, But mine was a piece of chit.. And didnt they quit makin Rotarys for a few years until the new Rx8 came out? And isnt the rotory motor only in Rx7's and 8's? I dunno, but mine sucked.... and I havnt heard anything good about em.. The Rx8 and the early 90's Rx-7s are awesome as hell though..
