Why do people put zip ties on the top of their cooling heads. What is the purpose.

The idea is to save the head from scratches when the car flips. I will take the initial hit on asphalt or cement, but pops off immediately and your head still gets scratched. Some people just put them on because they like to look. Good luck.

I find them only usefull on a buggy where the head is really exposed. I have no problem on my savage.

I love them on my buggy... they have eaten it so many times and haven't broken off yet. If they do... oh well... I've got a drawer full of them. So far, I have no scratches or damage what so ever on the engine head, and whenever it goes over, the wing, head, and front shock tower take the beating the most by far.

The head is so exposed on the buggies, and the zipties give it a little bit more protection.

Plus, the will "give" a little bit in case of crashing on a harder surface such as concrete or hard packed dirt... so it will absorb at least some of the impact and in a lot of cases, make enough difference to save a fin or two from getting bent. It makes the high point the center of the head and transfers the shock down the solid center portion as opposed to the outside edge of the thin fins.

hmm...zip ties......interesting...i saw a few like that on ebay and thought for some strange reason people did that to keep the head attached to the engine because the engine was so bad off so i steered clear away from those...learn something new everyday...well i know what i will be doing tomorrow to my new o.s. i just got a few days ago...

LOL...true enough. I learn at least two or three things new each day. Realize, that the zip tie mod is not bulletproof...but it does offer some minimal protection against roof top slides. Full on landings on the cooling head will still, more than likely, cause damages that no zip tie in the world can protect against.

Get creative...you might be able to fashion one yourself. In the meantime, I'll poke around and see if I can dig anything up...but I'd be surprised. Most people don't want to add the weight of a roll cage to a vehicle as small as the nitro rustler.

It depends on how many zip ties you use and who's driving. I have had as many as 2 dozen zip ties on a head and occasionally from time to time they break loose leaving the other 23 to take up the slack. I will say on that same not that they offer little to no protection when crossing paths with a BMW.

Ofna makes a head protector for the Hyper engine that fits several engines, but not all. I know it fits the 8 port, and the B01, but not the VZB.

LMAO at El Pirata. The Beamer incident continues to leave scars...that whole thing cracks me up...the pancake maxx...

i use a zip-tie on my head to keep the condom on.. o wait the other head.. o yea the zip-ties help cushion/ protect the top of the cooling head scratches and what not.
